Ben Tozer makes Wrexham point that proves Ryan Reynolds and Rob Mac can definitely challenge for promotion

Wrexham find themselves sitting in 15th place of the Championship table after the opening four games: steady, but not promotion form.

Wrexham owners Ryan Reynolds and Rob Mac aren’t shying away from their ambitions to reach the Premier League one day soon.

Already, the Dragons have moved from the National League to the Championship under their watch, and this summer Wrexham have spent £40million on new players.

Phil Parkinson now looks like he has a team capable of genuinely challenging for what would be an unthinkable fourth-straight promotion. But time is needed to get this team really gelling together.

Ben Tozer explains why Wrexham will only get better this season

This summer, 13 new players arrived at the Racecourse, with Wrexham signing three new players on deadline day alone. Ben Sheaf and Dom Hyam arrive as really experienced, quality Championship players, whilst Issa Kabore brings with him great pedigree from Man City.

Once the above three get into the groove, and when Wrexham get certain players back from injury, Parkinson will be spoiled for options. Speaking with The Athletic, former Wrexham man Ben Tozer has given his verdict on the team and how the squad is still growing and getting familiar with itself.

He explained: “They’ve started the season well, without necessarily getting the rewards. All four games could have gone either way. The team is still growing and the squad now looks really, really strong. Hopefully, the wins over Preston and Millwall will give everyone confidence.”

Wrexham’s strongest XI can blow any team away

Wrexham next play QPR in the Championship this weekend. The Rs have had a mixed start to the season too, sitting in 18th. But like Wrexham, they too have quality in their ranks.

And how Parkinson lines up on Saturday remains a bit of a mystery: will Sheaf and Hyam start straight away? Is Nathan Broadhead going to be fit to start?

But when everyone is fit and available for selection, Wrexham’s strongest XI could go up against any team in the Championship and put up a really good fight.

Arthur Okonkwo in goal, a back-five of Liberato Cacace, Callum Doyle, Conor Coady, Hyam and Kabore, a midfield of Lewis O’Brien, Sheaf and Ollie Rathbone, with Kieffer Moore and Broadhead up top is maybe Wrexham’s strongest XI right now, and that’s with some key players missing too.

But even with the likes of Rathbone left out of the Wrexham squad until January, Windass injured and so on, Parkinson can still field a very strong side on Saturday.
