Wrexham have been credited with an interest in former Spurs and England man Dele Alli following the close of the summer transfer window.

Wrexham were hard at work this summer, signing 13 new players with three new faces arriving on deadline day alone.

In the end, owners Rob Mac and Ryan Reynolds spent close to £40million on new players with Wrexham smashing their club transfer record to sign Nathan Broadhead from Championship rivals Ipswich Town in a £10million deal.

Phil Parkinson now looks to have a Championship-ready squad ahead of their return to action against QPR this weekend. And despite the summer transfer window now closing, it’s being reported that Wrexham are interested in signing Dele Alli.

Wrexham linked with Dele Alli after Como exit

Recent reports revealed how Wrexham, along with Tom Brady’s Birmingham City and West Brom are among the Championship teams looking to sign Alli, 29, who has recently become a free agent after another failed stint, this time with Como in Serie A.

The Wrexham Insider’s chief transfer correspondent Graeme Bailey has confirmed to us that Wrexham are indeed interested in signing the former Spurs and England star, but that the Dragons also face competition from Welsh rivals Swansea City.

Bailey explained to The Wrexham Insider: “I am told there is a very good chance that Dele Alli ends up in the Championship and that could very well be in Wales. Wrexham have shown an interest, they know there is a talent there and Phil Parkinson wants quality in this squad.

“But there is interest elsewhere in Wales with Swansea also keen. Alli knows he needs to pick the right club and there are a few in the Championship.”

Dele Alli’s incredible Premier League stats with Spurs

Alli’s fall from grace is certainly one of football’s great mysteries. But it’s no up for debate the fact that Alli was once one of England’s best midfielders.

Eventually racking up 37 caps for the Three Lions, as well as being the PFA Young Player of the Year for two years running from 2016 to 2017, Alli had a few years where he was untouchable.

But it was the 2016/17 season where he was really in form. He scored 18 Premier League goals for Spurs that season, with 51 goals in 194 total Premier League appearances in his career.

Since leaving North London in 2022, Alli has had stints with Everton, Besiktas and Como. But he’s struggled with different issues everywhere he’s been.

For Wrexham, it would certainly be an interesting signing. But whether it’s right for the club right now remains to be seen.
