Wrexham have spent a lot since winning promotion to the Championship, but they still haven’t quite reached the heights of some other sides.
The Red Dragons secured a place in the Championship for the first time ever back in April when they bested Charlton Athletic in a League One fixture.
Wrexham had played in the second tier back in 1982, but they had not lined out in the rebranded Championship before this month.
It’s been a difficult start to the season for Phil Parkinson, overseeing two league defeats in two weeks.
But Ryan Reynolds and Rob Mac want to reach the Premier League by 2027 and have been backing the club heavily in the transfer market to achieve this goal.
We have now taken a look at Wrexham’s transfer spend this summer and how it compares to the all-time record windows.

Biggest transfer window spends in Championship history and how Wrexham compare
At the time of writing, Wrexham have completed nine senior signings in the 2025 summer transfer window.
Nathan Broadhead arrived in a record deal from Ipswich Town last week, while fees have been paid out for the likes of Lewis O’Brien and Kieffer Moore.
| Player | Transfer fee |
| Nathan Broadhead | €8.70m |
| Lewis O’Brien | €3.47m |
| Liberato Cacace | €2.50m |
| Conor Coady | €2.30m |
| Kieffer Moore | €2.30m |
| George Thomason | €1.40m |
| Ryan Hardie | €825,000 |
| Danny Ward | Free |
| Josh Windass | Free |
It gives the Dragons a total transfer spend so far this summer of €21.50m.
But how does that compare to the all-time record transfer windows in the Championship?
| Team | Transfer spend | Year |
| Burnley | €50.19m | 2024 (summer) |
| Middlesbrough | €55.65m | 2017 (summer) |
| Aston Villa | €61.60m | 2016 (summer) |
| Newcastle United | €64.25m | 2016 (summer) |

Wrexham transfer spend set to increase
While Wrexham remain some way off catching the likes of Burnley and Middlesbrough, they are expected to make more signings before the window closes.
Though not confirmed at the time of writing, it has been reported that the Dragons will pay £8m for Callum Doyle of Manchester City.
That would take their summer spend close to the £30m mark and mean they have, for now, spent the most money of any Championship team in the current window.
Norwich City have paid out the most at present, coughing up what Transfermarkt report to be €25.10m.
