Despite having just spent £10m on the signing of Nathan Broadhead, Wrexham are set to announce another huge money signing, this time from the Premier League.
Wrexham haven’t been afraid to splash the cash this summer. Going into the transfer window it was revealed that Wrexham have a £25m transfer budget for the summer, under Ryan Reynolds and Rob Mac, who are determined to keep on pushing the Dragons towards the Premier League.
Last week Wrexham completed a £10m deal to sign Nathan Broadhead from Ipswich Town, and the Welsh international made his debut over the weekend, as Wrexham lost 3-2 at home to West Brom.
Phil Parkinson’s side have now lost their opening two Championship games. But the Dragons boss has quickly put together a strong side, and given time to gel, this Wrexham outfit could really perform in the second tier.
And ahead of what seems like a crunch match against Sheffield Wednesday this weekend, Wrexham look set to complete a deal to sign Callum Doyle from Manchester City.

Wrexham set to sign Callum Doyle from Man City
Recent reports have revealed how Wrexham are targeting Doyle at Man City. A 21-year-old Manchester-born defender is a product of City’s youth academy and also represents England’s under-21s.
But Doyle has yet to make his senior debut for Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City, instead having spent the last four seasons out on loan the last one was in the Championship with Norwich City, where he featured 40 times in the league last season, scoring once.
But on Tuesday morning, journalist Jordan Campbell revealed on X that Wrexham are ‘closing in on a deal’ to sign Doyle, which could be worth up to £8m, including add-ons. Campbell adds that Wrexham beat Scottish giants Rangers and Championship rival Sheffield United to the signing, but that Wrexham’s location was a key component in Doyle choosing a move to the Racecourse.
Callum Doyle’s career so far
Doyle came through the academy ranks with hometown team Manchester City but got his first taste of senior football with Sunderland in the 2021-22 season. He featured 36 times in League One that year as Sunderland won promotion via the play-offs. The following season Doyle spent time on loan with Coventry City, reaching the Championship play-off final, before winning promotion with Leicester City the following season.
And he impressed once again with Norwich City last time round. But at 21 years old and having spent the last four seasons out on loan, it was always likely that Doyle would be moved on permanently this summer, with no sign that he’s making his way into the Manchester City first-team.

Doyle is also experienced on the international stage too, having represented England at under-18, under-19, under-20 and under-21 level. In five appearances for the Young Lions. He’s scored twice.
Earning a big-money permanent move to Wrexham is a good opportunity for Doyle to really kick-start his career and to really start to make a name for himself in the Championship, which is a league he’s already proven himself in.
