Tom Wagner was in attendance to watch Wrexham vs Birmingham City, discussing Ryan Reynolds and Rob Mac before the match.

Wrexham and Birmingham City’s success has been mirrored over the last year or so.

Both won promotion from League One in 2024/25, and they are now competing on and off the pitch in the Championship.

Wrexham and Birmingham’s revenues for the current campaign are expected to mirror each other, while their wage bills are also pretty similar this term.

On the field, the Blues still hold the advantage, going unbeaten in all three of their recent meetings.

Friday’s tie ended with Wrexham drawing 1-1 against Birmingham after George Dobson’s opener was cancelled out early in the second half.

Tom Wagner on Ryan Reynolds and Rob Mac

Prior to the draw, Tom Wagner spoke to Sky Sports News at the Racecourse Ground.

Wagner hit out at Wrexham earlier this year, as was shown in Birmingham’s documentary series.

However, the Midlands outfit’s majority owner has issued a positive verdict on Ryan Reynolds and Rob Mac this week.

Speaking live to Sky in the build-up to the clash, Wagner praised Wrexham and highlighted how Rob and Ryan have helped the Dragons away from the pitch.

He said: “I mean, look, there’s a great amount of banter that exists and I think it speaks to just how passionate Ryan and Rob are about their ownership here, and what they’ve done not just on the pitch, but what they’ve done for the community.

“It’s a wonderful thing and I will tell you that when, set aside what’s going to happen to me when I walk by the stand in a little bit and I hear the catcalls and everything else. The reality is the fans appreciate what this has brought.

“I think our fans appreciate what the publicity has brought. It’s revenue, it’s spending. Part of the reason I read all those social media comments is because we get paid for it, so keep all the negative comments coming we love it. But you know all joking aside, I think it’s good for the communities, and enormous growth in the two foundations as a result of what we’ve done, and I think that’s just great.”

How much is Tom Wagner worth

Wrexham’s spending power has caught up to Birmingham after the summer window.

The Dragons splashed out around £33m on 13 players, while the Blues’ initial outlay before add-ons was around £12.4m.

In terms of their owners, though, it is Birmingham who, on paper, have the bragging rights.

Wagner’s net worth is estimated to be somewhere in the region of $1.6bn.

In comparison, Reynolds is thought to be worth around $500m, while Rob has a net worth of $50m.
