Wrexham kick off their first-ever season in the Championship next weekend against Southampton.

The Red Dragons have not lined out in the second tier of English football since the 1980s, long before the competition was rebranded.

A tough debut in the Championship is expected, with Wrexham facing Southampton next weekend.

The Saints spent 2024/25 in the Premier League and have returned to the second tier with parachute payments to spend.

Ben Foster has shared his prediction for Southampton vs Wrexham, and one of the Saints’ summer signings has been praised ahead of the tie.

Southampton have signed an ‘absolutely enormous’ player ahead of Wrexham

Wrexham have had a very active summer transfer window so far, signing six players with more deals expected.

Conor Coady is of interest, while a deal for Nathan Broadhead for a club-record £7.5m is thought to be close.

As for Southampton, they have made two new additions ahead of their first game of the campaign against Wrexham.

One of those is 21-year-old centre-back Joshua Quarshie, who has now received high praise from Saints captain Jack Stephens.

He told BBC Radio Solent: “He’s [Quarshie] slotted in really well. He’s a really, really nice lad and he’s absolutely enormous and very, very physical.

“It’s a little bit depressing when you are doing gym sessions next to him,” he quipped. “He’s a great lad who’s willing to learn.

“He’s always asking questions, and I think he’s going to be a really good addition for us.”
