Wrexham’s actions over the summer have caused one EFL manager to make a major change going into the new season.
The Championship season is now just over a week away, with Wrexham set to play out their first game in the second tier for over forty years.
After making the step up, Phil Parkinson and Co. have been very active on the transfer front.
Wrexham are eyeing Conor Coady to bring some much-needed experience to the centre of their back-three.
But the Red Dragons have already completed six senior signings this summer, one of whom has left a big gap in his former club’s squad.

Bolton manager on gap left by Wrexham’s George Thomason
George Thomason joined Wrexham from Bolton Wanderers earlier this month amid a sudden flurry of transfer activity.
Thomason is thought to have set the Red Dragons back around £1.2m and has been tipped to play in the Premier League by one former manager.
The now Wrexham midfielder made 169 appearances during his time at Bolton and was the club captain for much of last season.
Now, Bolton boss Steven Schumacher has been discussing the fact he needs to replace Thomason as captain going into the new campaign, which kicks off for the League One side this weekend.
As per The Bolton News, he said: “We’re close to making the decision but I think I’ve got a few good leaders in that dressing room. Obviously we lost George Thomason, who had the armband when I got here last year.
“He will obviously need a natural successor, but I have got a few players who could do that job in there.
“I think it’s important that the leaders that we pick, the leadership group that the lads will pick between themselves, everybody should be ready to be a captain and lead this team into battle whenever we choose.”
Who will be Wrexham captain in 2025/26
Wrexham have had some excellent captains over the last several years, including Luke Young and Ben Tozer.
James McClean wore the armband during the most recent season and it does seem likely he will keep it in the Championship.
McClean has more competition at left-wing-back this season after, what was at the time, a record signing of Liberato Cacace.
However, even if the Irishman is benched in some games for Cacace or Ryan Longman, he will still likely remain as the main captain due to his excellent leadership and experience.
It just means Phil Parkinson would have to select a different on-field captain whenever McClean does not play.
