Wrexham and manager Phil Parkinson are in the market for a new centre-back and it looks like they’ve identified an experienced former Liverpool and England player as the man they want to sign this summer.

Wrexham are turning heads once again. Both on and off the pitch the Dragons are making huge progress under manager Phil Parkinson and owners Ryan Reynolds and Rob Mac.

The latest bit of breaking news is that Wrexham are trying to sign Nathan Broadhead from Ipswich Town in a club record £7.5 million deal and it comes just a week after Wrexham broke their transfer record to sign Lewis O’Brien in a £5 million deal from Norwich who joins the likes of Liberato Cacace who’s arrived in a £4 million deal from Empoli in Italy.

There’s certainly a lot to be excited about ahead of Wrexham’s season opener away at Southampton on August 9th and in the less than two weeks before then it looks like Parkinson will bring in a few more new players with a centre-back now his top priority.

Wrexham want to sign Conor Coady from Leicester City

Amid the flurry of attacking signings recent reports have revealed that Wrexham now want to sign a new centre-back this summer. We’re yet to see one arrive at the Racecourse but Mail Sport are reporting that former Liverpool Wolves and Leicester City man Conor Cody is an emerging target for the Dragons.

Mail Sport write that Cody is a target for Wrexham as they ‘try to build a squad capable of reaching the Premier League’ with the 32-year-old centre-back tipped to leave current club Leicester City before the summer transfer window shuts on September 1st.

Interestingly, Mail Sport add that Cody is thought to be ‘impressed by the progress Wrexham have made in the recent years’ and that the former England man is also impressed by the club’s vision to reach the Premier League in the near future.

Conor Coady’s career so far, he’d be great for Wrexham

Going into this summer, it was reported that Wrexham wanted to sign Championship-experienced players, and Coady is certainly that and much more.

Coady began his career with Liverpool and whilst he only made a couple of first-team appearances for the club, he’d go on to have an illustrious career, even earning 10 caps for England during his impressive stint with Wolves.

He spent a year with Huddersfield Town after leaving Liverpool but would make his name with Wolves. In eight years with the club he made 317 total appearances, winning the Championship title in 2018.

Coady has spent the last two years at Leicester City, winning the Championship title again in 2024. Though he’s fallen out of favour with the Foxes and looks poised to leave.

A tried and tested player, Coady could be a great addition at centre-back and a wise mentor to the likes of Lewis Brunt and Max Cleworth for some years to come.
