Wrexham appear to have turned their attention to Nathan Broadhead rather than his compatriot Kieffer Moore, and the numbers suggest they’re making the right decision.
Despite spending big already this summer, Rob Mac and Ryan Reynolds supposedly handed Phil Parkinson another £10m to spend on a striker.
A Kieffer Moore transfer has been mooted, but talk on that front has gone cold this week with Nathan Broadhead now looking like the top target for Wrexham.
It’s thought Wrexham will pay at least £7m for Broadhead, potentially even closer to £7.5m. So, is he worth the money?

Nathan Broadhead was on fire in 2023/24 for Ipswich Town
The 27-year-old has not really been a first-team regular throughout his career, but he still boasts a very respectable record in the Championship.
Across 60 second tier games, Broadhead has 18 goals. That’s roughly a goal every three games (0.30 goals per game, to be precise).
That’s not exactly astounding but it’s worth noting that 13 of those goals came in the 2023/24 campaign when Ipswich Town achieved their remarkable back-to-back promotion to reach the Premier League. Could Broadhead now do the same again for Wrexham?
We should also add, Broadhead bagged two Premier League goals last season for the Tractor Boys in 18 appearances. Considering he averaged roughly 38 minutes per appearance, that’s not bad going at all.
The Welshman has also enjoyed some success in League One, with a ten-goal haul for Sunderland in 2021/22 and a further eight goals for Ipswich in 2022/23.
| Division | Games | Goals |
| Premier League | 19 | 2 |
| Championship | 60 | 18 |
| League One | 60 | 20 |
Wrexham fans see Broadhead as a signal of intent, and in many ways it is. Spending big money on a player who clearly has the talent to score double figures in the second tier is exactly what Wrexham need to not only survive in the Championship, but to mix it with the big boys.

Kieffer Moore’s record is marginally behind Nathan Broadhead
If we assume the main alternative to Broadhead for Wrexham is Kieffer Moore, we should probably compare the two and see who offers better value.
Moore is obviously far more experienced across the Football League. He’s made 200 appearances in the Championship, scoring 59 goals, but that actually puts his goals-per-game ratio (0.295) marginally behind Broadhead’s own record.
| Division | Games | Goals |
| Premier League | 35 | 5 |
| Championship | 200 | 59 |
| League One | 83 | 33 |
The big striker also has 35 Premier League appearances to his name, but has scored just five goals in the top flight. Again, his average there is actually worse than Broadhead’s top flight statistics.
It’s not surprising Sheffield United fans are happy to sell Moore, really. He’s not a bad player, but his goalscoring record is clearly not strong enough, and Wrexham need to move on from their habit of signing big, physical, experienced forwards if they want to evolve into a true Championship contender.
