Wrexham have just been handed a huge update in pursuit of one of their long-standing transfer targets, and it’s great news for Phil Parkinson.
Wrexham secured promotion from League One last season. The Dragons finished in 2nd place of the table and earned a third-straight promotion under Phil Parkinson and owners Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney.
But the hard work really starts now. If they thought three-straight promotions were difficult then they’ll find the Championship even more so. But Wrexham are tipped to stabilise in the Championship and there’s a lot of summer transfer rumours already emerging.
Wrexham have several transfer targets ahead of the window officially opening for business on June 1st. There’s an array of defenders, midfielders and attackers being linked with summer moves to the Racecourse, with Parkinson looking like he has a few long-term targets in mind too.
But it seems like he’s focusing on midfield signings right now, with several linked of late. One such player is Tom Lawrence.

Rangers confirm Tom Lawrence exit amid ongoing Wrexham transfer links
Wrexham have been linked with Lawrence for some time now. The former Derby County man has faced an uncertain future at Ibrox throughout the year, during which he’s been linked with a summer move to his home town team Wrexham.
And Rangers have now confirmed that the 23-cap Welsh international Lawrence is set to depart the club as a free agent this summer. Rangers have finished 2nd in the Scottish top flight, securing themselves a spot in the Champions League qualification process for next season and leaving the likes of Lawrence well out of the picture.
In three seasons with the club, the 31-year-old Lawrence made 69 total appearances for the Gers, scoring 12 and assisting seven more.

What position does Tom Lawrence actually play?
Lawrence is a very versatile midfielder. He could be of great use to Parkinson because Lawrence can literally play anywhere in midfield and attack, though as per Transfermarkt, his majority of games has come in the left wing position.
After that it’s the no.10 position which could be very appealing for Parkinson who played a no.10 last season. In the second half of the campaign though it was Jay Rodriguez, and Wrexham fans weren’t impressed with Rodriguez and so Lawrence arriving would be an upgrade for sure.
But Lawrence can also play a deeper midfield role or even on the right. Now a free agent, it could be an emotional return to his hometown club this summer, and at the same time, a very strong signing for the Dragons.
