Ex West Ham man Elliot Lee is rapidly becoming Wrexham’s star man after netting a number of crucial goals this season.
Wrexham snatched yet another last gasp goal at the weekend to clinch a vital 2-1 win against Sutton United.
Paul Mullin opened the scoring before Aiden O’Brien brought Sutton level just before the hour mark. However, as he has done several other times this season, substitute Elliot Lee popped up with a stunning late goal to earn the Reds all three points and move them up into third in League Two.
“That goal is right up there, one of my favourites in my career”
Speaking after the game, Lee said the goal was one of his favourites of his career so far.
“There is no better feeling than to score a goal in football, but to score a goal to win the game in the last minute and in front of that end is a special feeling and a feeling that I wish I could bottle up,” said Lee.
“It is the greatest feeling in the world.
“And scoring a goal like that – it wasn’t just a tap-in – is even better, the cherry on top of the cake.
“That goal is right up there, one of my favourites in my career.”

Elliot Lee is quickly becoming Wrexham’s star man with crucial late goals
While the likes of Paul Mullin, Steven Fletcher and James McClean get most of the attention, Elliot Lee has quietly gone about his business to become the unsung hero of this team.
The playmaker, who started his career at West Ham before stints at Barnsley, Luton, Oxford and Charlton, is Wrexham’s top goal scorer this season with nine goals.
But it’s not just the amount of goals Elliot is getting either – it’s the importance of them.
Lee’s stunning volley against Sutton turned a draw into a win, ensuring Wrexham remain in the hunt for the automatic promotion places.
The 28-year-old also scored a late winner in a 2-1 victory against Doncaster on 9th September. Lee popped up in the 88th minute of the game to grab the winner with a deflected strike.
The midfielder also netted two goals in the 5-5 draw with Swindon in August, including a 96th minute penalty to salvage a vital point.
Several other goals have contributed to positive results
Several other goals have also been hugely important in terms of results. He scored the only goal in a 1-1 draw with Wimbledon in August. Later that month he also converted from the spot as Wrexham played out another 1-1 draw, this time away at Barrow.
Elliot was also responsible for getting Wrexham back in the game against Salford recently. The Reds found themselves 2-0 down inside 36 minutes, however, Lee provided a lifeline when he pulled a goal back in the 39th minute. Wrexham would go on to win that game 3-2.
He may not get all the headlines, but Lee has become a pivotal component of Phil Parkinson’s side, whose knack for both late and important goals is propelling Wrexham up the League Two table.
