Wrexham have sent Jordan Davies on loan to Grimsby Town this season and the midfielder appears to be making an impression.

Back-to-back promotions meant Wrexham had to freshen up Phil Parkinson’s squad for the rigours of League One.

That meant some difficult decisions being taken with Ben Tozer and Luke Young among those to leave.

Young was Rob McElhenney’s favourite player at Wrexham but his contract came to an end – and Wrexham chose to move on.

Others found themselves on the fringes of the Wrexham squad and ended up being loaned out for first-team action.

Grimsby fans on Jordan Davies

Another player to move on was midfielder Jordan Davies.

Davies joined Grimsby Town on loan for the season and hit two goals in his full debut for Grimsby in August.

An injury has dealt Davies a real setback but he was back on the scoresheet against Accrington Stanley last week.

Davies come off the bench against Morecambe on Saturday and rattled the woodwork late on as Grimsby won 3-0.

Grimsby fans have now been taking to social media to discuss Davies and a potential future at Blundell Park.

One Grimsby supporter said ‘I’ll die on this hill, keep him fully fit he’s far too good for us and league 2, if Wrexham let him go in the summer we should be chucking the cheque book at him and keeping him here until he retires.’

Another Mariners fan stated ‘I’d go further. Sign him up and make him captain. There’s a lot of Paul Groves about him.’

A third fan chipped in with ‘One of the best speaking blokes we’ve had as well. Talks like he loves the club already. He’s way too good for this league so I’m hoping 1. We go up or 2. He falls in love with our club that much he wants to stay and leave them.’

Another Grimsby supporter said ‘If we manage promotion 100pct throw the cheque book’ with Davies continuing to make an impact.

Is there way back for Jordan Davies at Wrexham?

Davies has Grimsby fans right behind him and Wrexham supporters love him too.

Davies hails from Coedpoeth, came up in the Wrexham youth ranks and returned to the club after his time with Brighton and Hove Albion didn’t quite go to plan.

21 goals in the 2021-22 season showed the goalscoring ability Davies can provide, but he struggled for opportunities last season.

Phil Parkinson was happy for Davies to move out on loan and with Wrexham now aiming for the Championship, Davies may sadly be left behind.

Davies possesses so much quality and seeing him return as competition for Elliot Lee would make many fans happy.

The reality is that Davies may need to give up on his Wrexham dreams and move on at the end of the season, with Grimsby no doubt interested in a permanent move.
