Gareth Ainsworth criticises Wrexham owners amid the club’s recent rise
Speaking on BBC 5 LIVE SPORT’S Football Daily, Shrewsbury manager Gareth Ainsworth has been discussing the protection of EFL teams amid the new ‘three up’ proposal and has had some strong words for the rise of Wrexham.
Ainsworth stated: “We should look after our pyramid better and the teams, if a team can’t keep up financially for no other reason than the other teams have got billionaires coming in and millionaires, it’s not fair that they just sink out of league and out of obscurity.”
Ainsworth went on to explain: “It then becomes all about money. Wrexham have only done that because of the money they’ve had you know and of course they’re competing well but they’ve had billionaire owners in and it’s not fair.”
The Shrewsbury boss expressed his frustration that his own club ‘just can’t compete with Wrexham’ as he criticised the amount of investment that has gone into the Red Dragons.
Reynolds and McElhenney care about Wrexham Football Club
It cannot be denied from the Welcome to Wrexham documentary series that Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney have the best of intentions for the football club.
Wrexham has captured Reynold’s heart, whilst McElhenney is keen to keep telling Wrexham’s story across the world.
The owners continue to grow the club in a way that has captured the supporters’ imaginations beyond their wildest dreams and it begs the question as to how investment in football can ever be a negative thing.
Reynolds and McElhenney are bringing opportunities, ambition and most importantly joy to the town of Wrexham and the everyone at the club cannot be more grateful for their support.
