Wrexham fans will love hearing about Conor Coady’s England past and the words of praise that Gareth Southgate delivered about him.

Wrexham kick off their 2025/26 Championship season in a week, and owners Ryan Reynolds and Rob Mac are keen to further add to their ranks.

The Red Dragons have already made several signings, having brought in attacking talent in the shape of Josh Windass from Sheffield Wednesday and Ryan Hardie from Plymouth Argyle

They also look set to be joined by Nathan Broadhead and Kieffer Moore, who are nearing moves to the Racecourse Ground from Ipswich Town and Sheffield United, respectively.

Wrexham’s priority this summer has been significantly bolstering the attacking ranks; however, the defence has also needed focus regarding recruitment.

Conor Coady is set to join Wrexham, and for a former England international to be arriving at the Racecourse Ground, it is safe to say that there is plenty of excitement over the deal.

Wrexham fans will be excited after what Gareth Southgate said about ‘infectious’ Conor Coady

Wrexham boss Phil Parkinson is set to have his defence bolstered by the signing of Conor Coady from Leicester City, who the Red Dragons are set to acquire for £2m.

Whilst Coady is now in the swansong of his career, the Englishman will provide a wealth of experience to the Wrexham dressing room. As a player who has notched Premier League and international experience, his impact next season could be massive.

Signing a former England international comes with plenty of excitement, especially after what Gareth Southgate once said about the defender back in 2020, whilst he was at Wolves.

“Conor made me feel good sitting next to me yesterday (at the pre-match press conference),” the England manager said via Belfast Telegraph.

“He’s got that real infectious personality. I know he doesn’t go up for set-plays for his club so I’m sure he’s enjoyed that moment.

“He ended up with the armband and I wouldn’t have hesitated to give it to him at the start.

“He’ll go back now and (Wolves boss) Nuno (Espirito Santo) will never hear the last of it. But it is very special for him.

“He ended up with the armband and I wouldn’t have hesitated to give it to him at the start but we felt Kieran is the most capped player and with everything he’s done for us warranted that accolade.”

One Wrexham star will benefit from Conor Coady in particular

The signing of Conor Coady from Leicester City will certainly have a brilliant impact on each Wrexham player, but one who will benefit in particular is Max Cleworth.

Wrexham’s young talent has matured into a brilliant asset, having been a star player for the Red Dragons in the League One promotion-winning season.

Cleworth has continued to hit new heights, but still requires guidance to continue hitting that potential, and there is no better person than a former England international with vast Premier League experience.

It is expected that Coady would operate in the centre of a back three, and there he could help Cleworth develop his game into becoming a seasoned star at Championship level.
