The crazy money Wrexham are now competing against has been made clear this week, with their upcoming opponents ready to sanction a mega deal.

Wrexham are in pre-season action this weekend, seven days before the 2025/26 Championship campaign gets underway.

The Red Dragons kick off their campaign on Saturday, August 9, taking on Southampton.

Will Still’s side were relegated from the Premier League last term and as a result, have plenty of money to spend this summer.

Southampton have signed a key player ahead of facing Wrexham and could now be set for a major financial windfall via the sale of a top player.

Southampton could lose key player before Wrexham

From the National League and all the way up to League One, Wrexham were one of the top sides in each division when it came to spending power.

But clubs like the Saints have Premier League money to play with, and the quality of their best players means they can gain huge sums of money from sales.

For context, Transfermarkt value Wrexham’s current squad at around £21.9m.

But Southampton could now net nearly double that amount via the sale of just one player.

It’s been reported that the South Coast club, who previously wanted £100m for Tyler Dibling, will now sell the rising star for £40m, as per EFL Analysis.

It remains to be seen if a deal for Dibling will be completed prior to the Wrexham meeting next weekend.

Wrexham will be competing with Southampton soon

At present, Wrexham are in a great financial position but still not earning the type of money the top teams in the Championship are bringing in.

However, that should change in just 12 months, after a year in the second tier.

Wrexham expect to make £50m in revenue during the 2025/26 season, which is a major increase on their latest accounts.

The Red Dragons pocketed £27m in 2023/24, while their 2024/25 accounts are yet to be released.
