Wrexham are in the market for new additions this month but could utilise their current players to continue excelling in League One.

Wrexham want to sign a striker in the January transfer window with a whole host of names already linked.

Patrick Bamford is of interest to the Red Dragons and some interesting information coming out of Leeds United this week may help them in their pursuit of the forward.

Elsewhere, Wrexham should target Elliot Lee cover this month, with it becoming clear the midfielder is so important to the creative output of the Welsh outfit.

Further back, Phil Parkinson’s side are largely well-stocked but Ryan Barnett’s absence against Peterborough did highlight a weakness in their depth at right-back.

Rather than dipping into the transfer market to sign back-up for Barnett, however, Parkinson has hinted that a fringe Wrexham ace could be set for a bigger role in 2025.

Phil Parkinson hints at new role for Luke Bolton in 2025

Formerly of Manchester City’s academy, Luke Bolton joined the Hollywood-owned club on February 1st, 2024 from Salford City for an undisclosed fee.

Bolton made 17 appearances for Wrexham in the second half of 2023/24 but has seen his game time in the current campaign dramatically reduced.

The right-back is yet to make a single appearance in League One, with his three outings across the EFL Trophy and Carabao Cup totaling just 169 minutes of action.

Now, however, when discussing transfer plans as per Leader Live, Parkinson hinted Bolton, along with two other Wrexham players, may be set for a bigger role in 2025.

He said: “Like I have said before, we will bring somebody in if we feel it significantly improves us.

“We don’t do it for the sake of it because we’ve got players, like Sebastian Revan, Jacob Mendy and Luke Bolton, who haven’t had a lot of football and maybe it will be their turn in the second-half of the season to contribute.”

Phil Parkinson comments on Wrexham January transfer window

With day eight of the transfer window now upon us, Wrexham fans may have been hoping to have seen at least one name through the door at this stage.

A centre-forward would likely be a welcome addition given the club’s current struggles in that area.

But when speaking about transfers in the same interview, the Wrexham manager didn’t give too much away.

He added: “It’s the usual transfer window. Like everybody, it is looking around the market and touching base.

“Managers are constantly in touch with each other and obviously players’ agents are very active at this time of the year.

“We are in the loop with everything as we need to be at this stage.”
