The second automatic promotion place is expected to go to one of Wycombe Wanderers or Wrexham.

After the latest round of fixtures, Wrexham are predicted to finish second in League One, but have seen their chances of doing so decrease.

Hot on their heels is a Wycombe Wanderers side who have managed to close a six-point gap to just one in the space of a week.

Wycombe have won their last two fixtures, while Wrexham were held to a 0-0 draw versus Wigan Athletic on Saturday.

It means neither side can really afford to make any mistakes in their final two games, with a meeting against Bristol Rovers next up for Phil Parkinson’s men.

How many points Wrexham need for promotion if Wycombe beat Bolton

As for the Chairboys, they return to League One action on Friday with a tricky test versus a Bolton Wanderers side chasing the play-offs.

One former Wrexham transfer target can upset Wycombe and their quest for promotion, but what must happen if Mike Dodds’ side come out on top?

With four games left to play, the most points the Red Dragons can end the season on is 94, with Wycombe maxing out at 93.

As a result, given Dodds and co. have a better goal difference, if they beat Bolton, Wrexham will have to win all of their remaining matches to guarantee second place.

What if Wycombe draw against Bolton

If Wycombe drop two points this week, they will be sat on 82 with a maximum tally of 91 from their last three fixtures.

In turn, owing to goal difference again, Wrexham would need to get up to 92 points, or 10 from their last four matches.

This means they could draw one of their final three as long as they win the other three.

What if Wycombe lose to Bolton

This is obviously the best-case scenario for Wrexham, with Wycombe then only able to a total of 90 from their last fixtures.

It would leave the Welsh outfit needing to accumulate nine points from their last four.

This could be achieved via three victories (nine points) and one defeat.
