How much signing Christian Eriksen for one year would cost Wrexham based on Man Utd wages

Wrexham are expected to increase their wage bill following promotion to the Championship, but Christian Eriksen might be a bit out of their price range.

Early in the 2024/25 season, meetings, which included owners Rob McElhenney and Ryan Reynolds, took place that decided Wrexham would quadruple their wage bill if they were promoted to the second tier of English football.

The club’s 2023/24 accounts were revealed in March, with it confirmed they had spent just over £11m on wages during their one campaign in League Two.

The Red Dragons’ wage outlay for the most recent season will not be confirmed until next year, but it’s probably safe to assume their stint in League One took their total above £11m.

But even taking that figure as a baseline, Wrexham will be spending at least £44m on wages (for everyone at the club, not just players) in the 2025/26 season.

Now, rumours this week have emerged that Phil Parkinson wants Christian Eriksen and, as you would imagine, he is on a pretty hefty wage right now.

Eriksen will leave Manchester United as a free agent when his contract expires on June 30, along with previously-linked Wrexham man Jonny Evans.

Now 33, if there is a small chance Parkinson and Co. do convince the Dane to join, he would likely want a short-term deal.

And if he asks for anywhere close to what Manchester United are currently paying him, that may be best for all parties involved.

According to Capology, the midfielder is taking home £150,000-a-week right now, or £7,800,000-per-year.

That would eat up a sizable amount of Wrexham’s wage budget, even with the major increases, and would be 10 times what Jay Rodriguez, the club’s current highest earner, is taking home right now.

What Christian Eriksen has said about his future

While it would no doubt be an insane transfer to complete, the odds of the Man Utd man joining Wrexham do seem small.

Eriksen has spoken about his future this week, and his comments might give some fans a small glimmer of hope.

He did say he would like to leave England, but pointed out he did not expect to return after signing for Inter Milan, crucially saying ‘never say never’ when commenting on staying in the UK.

Eriksen stated: “Right now there is nothing. There is interest all around, but there is nothing that I am close to signing. My focus will be to play international matches and then have a good summer holiday. Then we will see how long the holiday will be.

“I would rather get away from the Premier League. I feel I have had my turn in the Premier League, so I am looking outside the English borders.

“It’s been a great place for me and my family, and we’ve been there for many years. When I moved from Tottenham to Inter, it wasn’t the plan for me to go back to England. I’ve been there for three and a half years again since then, so you can never say never, but the priority is for me to leave.”
