Wrexham loanee Paul Mullin was in action for Wigan Athletic over the weekend.

Years before reaching the Championship, Shaun Harvey predicted Wrexham would need to make changes to their squad if they were successful and rose up the EFL quickly.

That has very much been the case this year, with Paul Mullin losing his place in January before being loaned out to Wigan Athletic over the summer.

Mullin has become a regular starter for Wigan since his summer move, which will see him return to the Racecourse Ground in 2026.

Wrexham faced Norwich City in a 3pm Championship clash on September 20, while their club icon took to the field in League One.

Paul Mullin features for Wigan Athletic vs Bolton Wanderers

Wigan made the trip to local rivals Bolton Wanderers for a league fixture at 12:30pm on Saturday.

After scoring three goals in all competitions this season, Ryan Lowe has given Mullin a regular starting berth in recent weeks.

He was one of two strikers leading the line for the Latics on Saturday afternoon.

Bolton also have a former Wrexham striker on their books in Sam Dalby.

However, Dalby did not start the clash, which saw his side take a 1-0 lead after 15 minutes of action.

Things went from bad to worse for Mullin and his Wigan teammates as former Middlesbrough ace Marcus Forss doubled their advantage seven minutes later.

Bolton then added a third in the 42nd minute to all but kill off the game before half-time.

As for Mullin, he, as expected, saw very little of the ball given Wigan were largely dominated in the opening 45.

His first real contribution came 43 minutes in when he saw an effort on goal deflected wide for a corner.

Lowe opted to make three changes at half-time, but the Wrexham loanee remained.

The changes made no difference, however, with Forss adding his second to make it 4-0 after 50 minutes.

One positive, however, was that Mullin scored in the 53rd minute with an impressive curling effort from the edge of the box.

He now has three League One goals to his name for the Latics, which is as many as he managed for Wrexham in the entirety of last season.

Wigan are next in action on Tuesday, September 23, versus Wycombe Wanderers in the Carabao Cup.
