Wrexham are preparing to welcome Charlton Athletic to the Racecourse Ground.

‘Welcome’ may be too kind of a word as Phil Parkinson fired back at Nathan Jones following his ‘circus’ comment regarding the club.

Rob McElhenney has issued a rallying cry to fans to get behind Parkinson’s men at what will be a packed Racecourse Ground expectant of a famous Wrexham victory.

Matty James’s message to the Wrexham squad is to control their emotions amid the pressure-cooker of the promotion clash and the team will be keen to avoid Humphrey Ker’s ‘nightmare’ scenario.

Humphrey Ker branded play offs a ‘nightmare scenario’

Speaking on ‘Welcome to Wrexham’ season 2, episode 12, Ker discussed the prospect of the Red Dragons finally entering the football league automatically after beating Notts County 3-2.

The play offs have bitten Wrexham many times before, including their last entry in the National League play offs where they lost 5-4 to Grimsby on a heart breaking day for the club.

Ker stated: “This win puts us firmly in pole position to go on and win the league outright and avoid the nightmare scenario of going into the play offs but of course we still have to go and finish the job now.”

Wrexham of course did finish the job that season and Parkinson’s current side will be hoping to hear a repeat of Ker’s words after securing three points against Charlton.

Rob McElhenney stated one thing he has no control over at Wrexham

Speaking on the same episode of the documentary series, owner McElhenney spoke about the one thing that he and Ryan Reynolds have no control over at the club.

McElhenney stated: “We don’t have any control over what happens on that pitch, it just unfolds the way it does and you see that the people who are put in place to thrive in these difficult situations tend to thrive.”

Reynolds claimed that he is stressed over Wrexham’s promotion bid but the co-owner is set for another evening of nail-biting as the tension increases in North Wales.

Wrexham’s owners have no control over what goes on during the match but in Parkinson, they have a manager who has seen it all and have nobody better to guide them through the next two games.
