Paul Mullin’s exit broke Wrexham hearts this summer, but it hasn’t taken long for him to link up with his former teammate James McClean.
Wrexham fans were gutted to see Paul Mullin fall down the pecking order last season, with the iconic striker’s demise the only real blemish on an otherwise incredible campaign.
With Wrexham achieving their third successive promotion, there was obviously no place for Mullin in Phil Parkinson’s plans for the Championship, and he’s now moved on to Wigan Athletic in a loan deal for the season.
Mullin looked rusty as he made his Wigan debut this weekend, but he was all smiles soon after thanks to a surprise reunion with James McClean.

Paul Mullin and James McClean spotted together in airport
As both Wrexham and Wigan prepared to jet around the world for their respective pre-season fixtures, fate brought Mullin and McClean back together as the pair were spotted in the airport.
The Wrexham squad are off to Australia ahead of the clash with Melbourne Victory on July 11th, while Wigan are set to play Curzon Ashton in Spain next Saturday.
Mullin and McClean were photographed smiling together in an image shared on the Wigan Athletic social media account. The post was captioned: “Tics on Tour. You never know who you’re going to bump into at the airport!”
While Mullin is still technically a Wrexham player, it’s unlikely we will ever see the Red Dragons legend turn out for the club again, meaning this may be the only way we’ll catch him and McClean linking up for the foreseeable future.

Paul Mullin may be cast out, but James McClean will be key for Wrexham this season
Not only is he unlikely to play for Wrexham again, but Mullin may well struggle at Wigan, given the fact fellow new signings Christian Saydee and Dara Costelloe look to have a strong partnership already.
But, for McClean, the 2025/26 campaign will be a very interesting one indeed. He will be one of the most important players for Wrexham in the Championship, with his experience and leadership surely beneficial for Parkinson.
The Wrexham skipper may be 36-years-old now, but the fire and passion he brings to the pitch is unmatched. One thing’s for certain, McClean will not let Wrexham get pushed around in the second tier, and if they are to survive (or perhaps, even thrive), the Irishman will be integral to the cause.
