Wrexham, along with Charlton Athletic and Birmingham City, have replaced Luton Town, Plymouth Argyle, and Cardiff City in the Championship ahead of the 2025/26 season.

As ever, those coming up from League One could look to raid those who’ve been relegated into it, and Wrexham have already done so this summer.

Wrexham have signed Ryan Hardie from Plymouth Argyle. He brings immediate Championship quality and experience to the side and he’s since been joined by Danny Ward who’s joined Wrexham on a free transfer from Leicester City.

Phil Parkinson still has some big gaps to fill in his side, though, and Wrexham still have a £25million transfer budget to use, so we could yet see some big transfer fees thrown around this summer.

Here are five players who Wrexham should sign from the relegated Championship clubs this summer…

Five players Wrexham can sign from the relegated Championship clubs

Bali Mumba

Perhaps Plymouth’s most exciting player is Bali Mumba. The right wing-back featured 43 times in the Championship last season, assisting twice, and even coming onto the radar of Leeds United at the start of the year.

Transfer links in the former Norwich city man have since died down. It could leave the door wide open for Wrexham to swoop in and bolster a right-sided position that doesn’t have all that much depth right now either.

Plymouth paid just £1million for Mumba in 2023 and with Hardie having arrived at the Racecourse, Parkinson could already have an in with the 23-year-old.

Mark McGuinness

Despite Luton Town’s struggles last season, Irishman Mark McGuinness was a rock at the back, featuring 43 times in the league whilst scoring three and assisting three.

He could be the perfect next target for Parkinson who’s suffered a couple of blows in his search for a new centre-back: Jonny Evans has taken up a coaching role at Man United whilst Michael Keane has signed a new deal at Everton. Elsewhere, Maksym Talovierov is set to join Stoke City from Plymouth.

Elijah Adebayo

One of the Championship’s most prolific forwards over the last few years has been Elijah Adebayo at Luton Town. The 27-year-old only managed five last season, but he scored 10 in 27 Premier League games for the Hatters the season before, and 16 in 41 in the 2021/22 Championship campaign.

Fast, powerful and clinical, Adebayo could quickly become hot property this summer, and he would certainly add a new dynamic to Wrexham’s attack which might be lacking in pace as things stand. He’d also help to fill the void left by Paul Mullin.

Callum Robinson

Callum Robinson is already on Parkinson’s shortlist. Earlier in the summer, Wrexham were linked with Robinson who scored 12 in the Championship last season, ending the campaign as the Bluebirds’ top scorer.

New manager Brian Barry-Murphy says Cardiff City don’t have to sell players this summer, but Robinson looks like one they might have to cash in on given his Championship quality, and the fact that we’ve already seen interest emerging in him this summer.

He remains an exciting potential signing for the Dragons.

Perry Ng

Despite a woeful season for Cardiff, and some rather disappointing seasons in general, full-back Perry Ng was a beacon of consistency.

The 29-year-old right-back, who can also play at centre-back, played 35 times in the Championship, scoring once and assisting once. Indeed, he’s been a reliable name for the Bluebirds over the last few years, and a constant in the side too having made 35 or more league appearances in the last four seasons.
