Wrexham are desperate for their first home win of the season as they prepare to welcome Derby County to the Racecourse Ground.
Phil Parkinson’s side come into the clash on the back of successive wins over Norwich and Reading in the Championship and Carabao Cup respectively.
Three points have eluded the Red Dragons at the Racecourse Ground so far this season and the team will be desperate to put that right by tightening up defensively.
The return of Josh Windass following a hamstring injury has been a huge factor in the upturn in results and the Wrexham star has just revealed how his manager has surprised him this season.
Josh Windass reveals that he ‘didn’t expect’ Wrexham captaincy v Norwich City
Speaking to the Leader, Windass has revealed that he ‘didn’t expect’ to be named captain in the club’s recent 3-2 victory over Norwich City.
With James McClean and Matty James on the bench, the armband was handed to Windass and he repaid the manager’s faith with a starring role in the game.
Windass stated: “I only found out about five seconds before you are supposed to do the team sheets,” said Windass, who is in line to keep the captaincy for tomorrow’s home match with Derby County.
“I was just getting a rub on the treatment table and the gaffer came in and said I was captain. I didn’t expect it. To be in a group of this quality and with a team like this, it’s obviously an honour that he’s chosen me to do that.
“I think there’s a lot more sort of leaders than me in the team so for the gaffer to trust in me, it was nice.”
Wrexham fans were in awe of Windass as his two goals earned a much-needed three points and all eyes will now be on whether he retains the armband in the upcoming clash with Derby County.

Windass has already become a pivotal part of Wrexham’s side following his summer move from Sheffield Wednesday and fans know the strength of his partnership with Kieffer Moore up top.
Giving him the captaincy will give him a sense of responsibility to lead the Red Dragons and could be the catalyst for him to produce his best season yet in the Championship.
