Ali Maxwell has looked past Kieffer Moore and Issa Kabore to name another summer signing as Wrexham’s player of the season so far.

Kabore is drawing comparisons to Paul Mullin following his electric start to life at the Racecourse Ground.

Moore has been dangerous in front of goal after his £2m transfer from Sheffield United as well.

However, while Maxwell did praise both players, he opted to name another star as Wrexham’s main man when previewing their meeting with Stoke City.

Lewis O’Brien named Wrexham’s best player

Speaking on the Not The Top 20 podcast, the EFL pundit shared his opinion that Lewis O’Brien has been Wrexham’s best player in 2025/26 so far.

He said: “Lewis O’Brien, probably the best Wrexham player this season, going box-to-box, using that phenomenal energy in so many ways.”

On Moore, Maxwell stated: “Kieffer Moore has been a brilliant addition and is playing fantastically well. And I just love the fact that whether you start Windas or whether you start Broadhead, both of them seem to complement Moore pretty well.”

Maxwell also had high praise for Kabore. He said: “The right-wing-back Kabore looks excellent on the right-hand side, particularly that Norwich game, he was unbelievably good.”

The former Nottingham Forest man has three goals and two assists in nine Championship appearances this season, proving himself to be a great pick-up this summer.

Swansea tried to sign O’Brien permanently after a successful loan spell, but he chose to join the Dragons instead and has explained why.

Why Lewis O’Brien joined Wrexham

O’Brien commented on his summer transfer late last month, admitting he needed to find somewhere to call home after several loan stints.

He said: “I always wanted somewhere to call home. When I spoke to the gaffer [Phil Parkinson] and to the people I knew who were already here, it was definitely a no-brainer to come here.

“Forest made it pretty obvious that it was time for me to leave the club, and I’d been on four loans. It was one of those where, now you look back on it, you’re very happy with the decision.

“It was time to leave, and it was nice to know I had the options to lay them out on the table and pick the one that was right for me. So far, it looks like this was the best one.”

O’Brien is under contract at the Racecourse Ground until 2028 and is one of the players who should be key to helping Wrexham achieve their goal of reaching the Premier League for the first time ever.

He’s excelled in an advanced midfield role so far, but he is naturally a more deep-lying option, so he could very well be moved alongside Ben Sheaf to allow Nathan Broadhead to start more regularly as the season progresses.
