Wrexham manager Phil Parkinson has been keen to strengthen his squad this summer but may have been dealt a blow to his hopes of landing one of his key targets.
Many new faces have arrived at Wrexham this summer, but the club is keen to remain active in the window before the season starts.
One priority position Phil Parkinson wanted to address at the Racecourse this summer was his midfield.
The Red Dragons have already signed former Charlton Athletic star George Dobson. Dobson is an experienced leader who has played over 250 League One games.
The 26-year-old will be expected to become a regular in the starting XI due to his EFL experience and working under the manager during their time at Sunderland.
Wrexham have been heavily linked with a move for Brighton Hove Albion midfielder Marc Leonard.
After his impressive two-year loan spell at Northampton Town, the Scottish midfielder has attracted attention from a host of Championship and League One clubs.
However, the transfer race for his signature is heating up with two more clubs declaring their interest in the 22-year-old.

Wrexham have been keen to add Leonard to Parkinson’s squad. It looked like promotion rivals Birmingham City were closing in on the Premier League midfielder.
However, The Athletic’s Andy Naylor has issued an update on the Leonard situation.
On X Naylor posted: “Barnsley and Huddersfield join the clubs interested in Marc Leonard.”
It remains to be seen in if Wrexham will make an offer for Leonard, but he is certainly a player in demand this summer.

Wrexham have an inflated midfield department with several quality midfielders available to Parkinson.
With Dobson, Elliot Lee, Andy Cannon, and George Evans all expected to be heavily involved this season.
However, Dobson and Leonard are different in playing style with the latter able to add goals from midfield.
The Brighton academy star made 11 goal contributions for Northampton last season. Scoring five goals and providing six assists.
He is only 22 years old and has the potential to improve in the coming seasons. If the club successfully bring him to the Racecourse he would add extra quality in the midfield and would provide competition for Cannon.
It will take a strong offer to beat other clubs to his signature but it would be a statement signing, and a huge boost to the team heading into the 24/25 League One campaign.
