Conor Coady is set to return to the King Power with Wrexham this week to face Leicester City in the Championship in their first meeting for 43 years.

The Red Dragons brought the England international to the Racecourse Ground this summer for a £2 million fee on a two-year contract.

Phil Parkinson brought the experienced defender to the club for the guidance he can provide to the squad and the knowledge he has from his career.

Ahead of the Welsh club’s clash with the Foxes, Marti Cifuentes has let his feelings be known about coming up against his former player, as Leicester look to continue their perfect league record against Wrexham.

Leicester City appointed Marti Cifuentes as manager during the summer in the hopes that he could return them to the Premier League.

One of the players he inherited as manager was Conor Coady; however, the Spaniard has made it clear with Leicestershire Live that the England international made his feelings known that he wanted to move away from the club.

He said: “We spent not many weeks together, but he’s a brilliant guy.

“He was very honest about his feelings and his situation in the club. So I really wish him all the best, apart from Tuesday.

“They are in a journey as a club. They have been doing really well in the past couple of seasons. It’s going to be a good challenge for us.”

Marti Cifuentes admires the Wrexham journey

The Foxes manager will be focused on getting another home victory when the Welsh side face them on Tuesday night, with Leicester being seen as favourites against Wrexham.

However, Cifuentes took time to express his admiration for the journey the Red Dragons have been on since Ryan Reynolds and Rob Mac took ownership of the club.

He said: “Definitely when there are committed owners, there is a possibility to do a lot of good things,” Cifuentes said of Wrexham. “But when you arrive to this level, it starts the challenge of PSR.

“They have definitely signed good players for this league. I’m sure they will keep improving, from what I hear and what I know. It’s definitely an interesting journey, the one they have been on.”
