Wrexham have been smart with their business throughout the club’s dramatic rise to the Championship.
Claims that Wrexham have ‘bought’ their recent promotions are far from the truth and Phil Parkinson has cleverly made use of a number of different transfer avenues in order to build his squads.
Wrexham fans are becoming frustrated at hearing how much money the club will spend in the Championship compared to other clubs but the truth is the Red Dragons are well within PSR limits.
During their League One promotion campaign, the club were in desperate need of reinforcements in the January transfer window and Michael Williamson has now hinted that Wrexham ‘overpaid’ for one signing.

Michael Williamson hints that Wrexham ‘overpaid’ for Sam Smith
Shaun Harvey says Sam Smith was number one choice for the club back in January as they craved a player that could bring energy and goals to their front line.
Smith did just that by scoring seven goals for the club to help fire them to promotion but it has now been revealed in the latest episode of ‘Welcome to Wrexham’ that Williamson believes the club may have ‘overpaid’.
Whilst discussing transfer plans with Parkinson, Williamson stated: “It’s January, you’re going to overpay a little bit.”
Wrexham will now be thinking that Smith was worth every penny of his reported club-record transfer fee and also proved Williamson wrong on another statement he made.
Williamson explained back in January: “If you bring in a 25-year-old striker, it’s going to cost a lot of money and honestly for the now, there’s probably you know limited upside to some extent because it will take six months before they get situated with the whole environment that we have around here.”
Sam Smith ready to prove doubters wrong in the Championship
Smith is desperate to perform in the Championship after a first spell in the division at just 19 proved to be beyond the striker.
However, with experience now on Smith’s side, he is ready to lead the Wrexham attack next season and continue to build on such an impressive start to his career at the Racecourse Ground.

Ryan Reynolds praised Smith’s strength and he will need to utilise his ability to hold the ball up and run the channels against some stern defences next campaign.
An area Parkinson is looking to strengthen is a creative midfield to provide service to Smith and Wrexham’s interest in Myles Peart Harris is certainly good news for the 27-year-old front man.
