Sam Smith should be thrilled after hearing who Wrexham now want to sign in summer transfer window

Sam Smith has enjoyed a prolific start to life at Wrexham, but could improve even more if one player signs.

With promotion very much on the cards, Rob McElhenney and Ryan Reynolds decided to go big in the January transfer window.

Wrexham paid £2m to sign Sam Smith from Reading, and it is a deal that has more than worked out.

Reynolds has praised Smith for his strength recently, following on from a prolific debut half-season in Wales.

However, the striker has struggled at times and could do with some help during certain matches.

Sam Smith has been isolated at times for Wrexham

Wrexham fans felt sorry for Smith in a fixture during 2024/25 when he was isolated up front and receiving little to no service.

Nathan Salt expressed concern for the striker during a meeting with Wigan Athletic as well, saying: “I looked at Sam Smith and I felt sorry for him on Saturday at Wigan, because what was he meant to do? Did he even get a half chance?

“Did he even get the ball in an area where he was able to try and get a shot off? I thought he wasn’t even feeding on scraps, it was the crumbs of the crumbs. He had nothing to work with.”

Despite not receiving the best service during several matches, the 27-year-old still scored seven in 19 for Wrexham – the second-most of all their number nines behind Steven Fletcher.

But if the Dragons go out and sign some creative midfielders this summer, Smith’s goal return should hopefully be even more impressive in 2025/26.

Myles Peart-Harris should help Sam Smith

Wrexham struggled to create chances at times in 2024/25, in part because they don’t have many natural attacking midfielders

Elliot Lee is the only real option for that role right now, but Myles Peart-Harris has now emerged as a target for the club in recent days.

On the books of Premier League outfit Brentford, Peart-Harris was loaned to Swansea City in 2024/25, where he scored three and assisted four in 29 Championship matches.

He was primarily used on either flank for the Swans, but his natural and main position throughout his career has been a 10.

As a result, he could come in and compete with Lee and, most importantly, offer up more chances to Smith, who is already excelling despite, at times, not being fed enough opportunities.
