Wrexham confirmed the signing of Nathan Broadhead from Championship rivals Ipswich Town on Thursday evening in what becomes a club record transfer for the Dragons.
Wrexham promised to deliver this summer, and after what was a slow start to proceedings, their transfer window has quickly burst into life, with Phil Parkinson having now welcomed nine new players to the Racecourse this summer.
And on multiple occasions, Wrexham have broken their club record transfer. First it was for Liberato Cacace, and then for Lewis O’Brien, but now it’s for Nathan Broadhead, and it looks like the record may last for a while yet.
Wrexham have signed Broadhead in a £10m deal from Ipswich Town. The striker joins on a four-year deal, and Ipswich Town fans are sad to lose Broadhead, which tells us that Wrexham have signed a really solid player.
Whether or not he arrives in time to feature against West Brom this weekend remains to be seen, but many expect Broadhead to become a key player for Wrexham and to play an integral role in what is an integral season in the Championship for the Dragons.

Nathan Broadhead spoke to Kieffer Moore and James McClean before Wrexham move
Speaking to the club in his first interview, Broadhead revealed that he spoke with Welsh national teammate Kieffer Moore before signing. Wrexham signed Moore from Sheffield United earlier in the summer transfer window. The big striker debuted against Southampton last weekend, but in a huge blow for the club and for the striker, Moore has picked up an ankle ligament injury which will keep him on the sidelines for a while yet.
Nonetheless, Moore gave time to Broadhead before he signed for Wrexham, selling the club to his national teammate along with James McClean who would also message Broadhead. Speaking in his first interview, Broadhead revealed how the two Wrexham players spoke to him before signing.
Broadhead said: “I’ve had a couple of messages off Kieffer and obviously James McClean asking me if I was coming or not. They just said it was a it was a good club, and the owners are massive for the club and the only way is up for this club.”
How much every Wrexham summer signing has cost so far
Last January, Wrexham broke their club record transfer to sign Sam Smith from Reading in a £2m deal. It was a big move at the time, and Smith remains a key player, even despite the flurry of attacking signings this summer. And that £2m mark has been a bit of a benchmark for Wrexham in this summer’s transfer window.
Per Transfermarkt, Wrexham have paid around that amount for both Conor Coady and Moore, whilst George Thomason and Ryan Hardie both cost less than the £2m. Meanwhile, Cacace cost slightly more, and Lewis O’Brien cost £3m from Nottingham Forest, but Broadhead arriving for £10m more than triples the club’s previous club record transfer.
| Player | Cost |
| Nathan Broadhead | £10m |
| Lewis O’Brien | £3m |
| Liberato Cacace | £2.2 |
| Conor Coady | £2m |
| Kieffer Moore | £2m |
| George Thomason | £1.2m |
| Ryan Hardie | £700k |
| Danny Ward | Free |
| Josh Windass | Free |
Going into the summer, it was revealed that Wrexham have a £25m transfer budget for this summer, and so there remains a little bit left for potentially one more signing, though expect Parkinson to turn towards the loan market now that he’s spent the bulk of his summer transfer kitty.
Wrexham return to action against West Brom in the Championship this weekend.
