Paul Mullin has been dealt a blow on the back of his latest outing for Wigan Athletic.

Wrexham sent the 30-year-old out on loan for the 2025/26 campaign.

Paul Mullin has impressed for Wigan Athletic in patches this season, already matching his League One goal tally with Wrexham.

This past weekend saw the Red Dragons draw 1-1 with Derby County, while the Latics took on Cardiff City.

Following that game, Mullin has suffered a blow, and he has now provided an update.

Paul Mullin injury blow with Wigan Athletic

Wigan were beaten by Wrexham’s rivals, Cardiff, on September 27.

Ryan Lowe’s men were off their game, suffering a first home defeat of the season in League One.

Mullin played fine versus Cardiff, but did little of note before he was taken off.

Now, the centre-forward has confirmed he suffered an injury during the clash and has shared an update.

Mullin is hopeful he will be ok, but was quick to temper expectations when it comes to his recovery.

He said, as per Wigan Today: “It’s a bit early to tell, but hopefully, everything goes alright this week, and it’ll be fine.

“But who knows? Just as I pushed off to jump, he sort of stood on the inside of my ankle and sent it over one way as I was trying to go the other.

“It’s a bit of a roll on the ankle, but we’ll see how it recovers over the next few days – hopefully, I’ll be alright.”

Injury cost Paul Mullin at Wrexham

Wigan return to action on Saturday, October 4, facing off with Plymouth Argyle.

It remains to be seen if the Wrexham loanee will have recovered in time for that clash.

He is no doubt praying the issue is not a serious one, as the striker is very familiar with how long-term injuries can be costly.

Mullin spoke about his injury suffered in 2024 over the summer and how, despite returning to action, he was still in pain for many months after.

He said: “I’ve had mental struggles this season, mainly from coming back from injury. I got the surgery and they told me it’d be six weeks before I could start running, then once I got a bit fitter, I could get back involved and things.

“But for some reason, after probably 8-10 weeks, I’m still having severe pains in training. The surgeon decided to tell me it could take up to six months to feel full relief, so that was challenging because I want to make sure I can give even more to make sure when I go on the pitch, I can be myself.”

Mullin was not at his best for Wrexham last term, which led to him being dropped, and it seems injury woes played a part in that.
