Wrexham secured a third straight promotion on Saturday evening, beating Charlton Athletic 3-0 at the STōK Cae Ras.

Wrexham fans can go into the final day of the League One season in party mode rather than with a sense of nerve-shredding anxiety.

Saturday afternoon proved to be the big day as Wycombe Wanderers lost to Leyton Orient, hours before Wrexham walked out at the STōK Cae Ras.

Wrexham beat Charlton Athletic 3-0 with a brilliant performance, blowing the Addicks away just a week after their 4-0 win over Wycombe Wanderers.

Ollie Rathbone’s powerful drive opened the scoring before Sam Smith’s acrobatic effort made it 2-0.

By the time Smith added number three in the second half, Wrexham fans were already preparing to flood onto the pitch for yet another promotion party.

Paul Mullin on Wrexham promotion

McElhenney and Reynolds bought Wrexham in 2021 and that takeover alone sparked wild dreams in North Wales.

Fans who simply wanted to get out of the National League were suddenly believing that the Premier League could be in the club’s long-term future.

Nobody could have predicted three promotions in a row, though, catapulting Wrexham from the National League to the Championship.

Paul Mullin has been vital to that rise, even if the striker has found first-team football hard to come by in 2025.

Wrexham’s goalscoring hero has taken a backseat role since the end of the January window but hasn’t let that ruin his fun.

Mullin celebrated Wrexham’s victory on Saturday night but has returned with another message to Wrexham fans on social media.

Mullin noted that he will never take such momentous days for granted, and is forever grateful to have been part of a ‘special and unique’ situation at Wrexham.

‘Another one!!! We are going up! Will never take one of these days for granted. So grateful to be a part of something so special and unique,’ said Mullin.

Ollie Palmer shares message after Wrexham promotion

If this summer is to be the end of Mullin’s time at Wrexham, then he will be going out a hero.

Wrexham fans showed their love for Mullin as the promotion celebrations started on Saturday evening, and his role as the key man in this rise will never be forgotten.

Mullin may not be the only emotional exit this summer, though, as partner-in-crime Ollie Palmer could move on too.

Palmer has struggled for playing time in 2025, just like Mullin, and the two striking heroes may depart.

Palmer also took to Instagram to send a message to fans, simply stating ‘Three for Three’, posting photos alongside Reynolds’ wife Blake Lively and McElhenney.

The pair have left an indelible mark on Wrexham and will be remembered long after their exits, whether they come this summer or down the line.

It would almost seem right that Mullin and Palmer leave Wrexham together, given their incredible partnership in the Wrexham attack, and they will remain fan favourites for many, many years to come even when they do depart.
