Paul Mullin will go down in history as one of the greatest players to ever line out for Wrexham.
Wrexham’s story under Rob McElhenney and Ryan Reynolds is remarkable and nobody is more synonymous with it than Paul Mullin.
The now 30-year-old was the first marquee signing of the Rob and Ryan era, joining on a free transfer from League One outfit Cambridge United in July 2021.
It was a very surprising deal at the time but it’s fair to say, for the most part, it has been a resounding success and Wrexham would not be where they are today without Mullin.
He has finished as the club’s top scorer in the previous three campaigns and has now scored the most goals of any player in Wrexham history.

Now competing in League One though, Mullin is struggling for form at Wrexham and has fallen down the pecking order under Phil Parkinson.

What Paul Mullin has said about leaving Wrexham
The Englishman has three League One goals in 26 matches this campaign – a major decline from previous seasons.
This has seen Parkinson drop Mullin to the bench and instead deploy a make-shift pairing of Ollie Palmer and Elliot Lee.
That combination has been pretty poor but the Wrexham manager has persisted with it rather than starting their record goalscorer regularly.
Sam Smith is now set to join from Reading before deadline day and Jack Marriott has just returned from injury.
It’s clear Mullin is now pretty far down the centre-forward pecking order in Parkinson’s eyes but it seems unlikely he will look for a move elsewhere.
Speaking to The Guardian in April 2024, he stated how leaving Wrexham is never something he thinks about.
He said: “Obviously, I want to play at the highest level possible. I’d love to play for Wales, the country where my nan was born. But in terms of leaving the club it’s never something I think about.
“I signed a new contract with Wrexham in January because I absolutely adore it. I come home every day and see (his son) Albi, which is the main reason I signed in the first place.”

What Paul Mullin has said about Wrexham fans
During his struggles in 2024/25, supporters have had mixed reactions to the former Cambridge ace.
Wrexham fans weren’t happy with Mullin during a meeting with Bristol Rovers this season but for the most part, they have continued to show support for him.
And speaking in the same interview back in April, the Liverpool-born forward spoke glowingly of the club’s fans and his love for them.
He said: “I’m here for the next two years. The fans love me, I love them and everything about the club. But if another club made an offer and Wrexham accepted it, then I’m in a position where they’re telling me to go.
“It’s not something I’m looking for or would wish to happen. It’s quite the opposite. I’d love to play in the Premier League for Wrexham. That’s the pipe dream.”
