Paul Mullin is underway at Wigan Athletic, having scored his first goal, first league goal following his loan move from Wrexham.
Paul Mullin‘s Wrexham fallout was one of the main stories of last season and of the summer for Wrexham.
The Dragons’ modern day legend fell out of favour under Phil Parkinson in the second half of last season, eventually going on to make just 26 League One appearances, scoring three goals as Wrexham earned a third-straight promotion.
Going into this summer, it was clear that Mullin was set to move on, and in the end he joined Wigan Athletic on loan. Then, in Wigan’s last game against Rotherham United, Mullin scored his first league goal for Wigan Athletic, taking his tally to two goals in six total appearances so far for the Latics.

Paul Mullin opens up on ‘difficult’ Wrexham season
Mullin recently gave an interview with BBC Sounds following his first goal for the club. He spoke about a variety of things including Parkinson and last season. Mullin was asked how he’s finding his time with Wigan so far and he responded positively, whilst looking back on his last season at the Racecourse.
Mullin spoke about how difficult last year was but insisted that winning promotion with the club was another huge achievement. He said when asked how he’s finding his time with Wigan Athletic: “Absolutely loving it. It’s been really refreshing for me.
“Last year was quite difficult for me personally, coming back from the injury and obviously having things go the way they went… But we got another promotion and it was fantastic in that sense, something we worked really hard for.
“But since coming to the club [Wigan] and getting around the lads who’ve been unbelievable, they’re a real laugh and work ethic every single day, the gaffer’s class and all the staff and fans as well, travelling up and down to support us… I’m a part of the club now and I’m enjoying it.”

Paul Mullin may only play for Wrexham again if one thing happens
It’s clear that Parkinson quickly lost faith in Mullin. And speaking earlier in the year, Mullin said he didn’t know why Parkinson lost faith in his ability to score goals, which hadn’t let Wrexham down up until that point.
After moving to Wigan, it was revealed that Wigan Athletic do not have an option to buy Mullin and that Wrexham can recall the striker in January. And given the fact that he remains under contract until 2027, there remains every chance that Mullin plays for the club again.
But as long as Parkinson is in charge, that may never happen. However, after two defeats and one draw in the league so far, it has been revealed that Parkinson remains safe in the Wrexham job for the time being, but that if results remain poor come Christmas time, then owners Ryan Reynolds and Rob Mac may have to consider a change.
Should that happen and a new manager comes in, that might give Mullin a new potential chance to get back into the first-team picture at the club.
But for now, he remains at Wigan Athletic where he’ll want to keep on scoring goals.
