Wrexham manager Phil Parkinson decided to drop Paul Mullin in 2024/25, and the striker has now commented on the situation.
Paul Mullin began the 2024/25 season on the sidelines with an injury issue that plagued him for many months after his return.
The striker eventually got back into the side and opened his account for the campaign with a 16-second goal against Rotherham United.
He went on to score a further two League One goals before Phil Parkinson dropped Mullin and Ollie Palmer on the back of a 3-2 defeat to Stevenage – Wrexham’s first home loss for nearly 11 months – on January 28.

Paul Mullin on being dropped by Wrexham manager Phil Parkinson
In their absence, Parkinson started January signings Sam Smith and Jay Rodriguez in every league fixture from February to the end of the campaign.
Mullin has now signed for Wigan Athletic and will play his first competitive game for the Latics on Saturday against Northampton Town.
Now, the Liverpool-born forward has been speaking about his time on the sidelines last season.
When doing so, as per Leader Live, he admitted he ‘thought about’ nothing else other than the team’s collective success and promotion hopes, which they eventually realised on April 26 versus Charlton Athletic.
He said: “I never thought about anything else.
“It was always about the team and success as a team, and ultimately, we went and achieved that, which was absolutely brilliant to see.
“You spend years with some people working hard every day to get as many promotions as you can and to do three in four years, and have a play-off semi-final the other year, is not a bad achievement.”

Why Phil Parkinson dropped Paul Mullin
The Mullin and Palmer absences in the second half of the season were surprising and left fans with plenty of questions.
The manager never really spoke about the duo in the media despite leaving them out of matchday squads altogether.
However, in Welcome to Wrexham Season 4, which aired at the end of 2024/25, Parkinson finally explained why he dropped Mullin and Palmer.
He said: “When we brought two strikers in January, we always knew we’d have a surplus of, and people would find themselves out of the 18-man squad because you can only have seven substitutes.
“That’s the way it is. Mulls didn’t just quite get the goals, which he normally does, and I thought he had a good start to the season, and his general performances were decent, but the goals just didn’t come, and we just needed more from the player in that number nine role.
“So Paul and Ollie found themselves out of the 18-man squad. It’s a harder level than we’d been operating at. So, both good lads, really good lads, have carried on training well for us. But it’s tough, it’s a competitive division, to make the step up is not easy.”
