The new season of Welcome to Wrexham has given an insight into the injury problems Paul Mullin has been facing.

Wrexham signed Paul Mullin from Cambridge United back in the summer of 2021 on a free transfer.

It was a major coup for the club, landing a player who had just finished as League Two’s top goalscorer and won promotion while they were still in the National League.

Mullin enjoyed a prolific first three years in Wales, scoring over 100 goals and finishing as their top scorer in each season.

However, an insight into the injury problems the now 30-year-old has been forced to deal with has emerged.

Paul Mullin opens up on injury in Welcome to Wrexham

Welcome to Wrexham Season 4 premiered on Disney+ for fans in the UK on Friday, May 16.

The first episode of the show gave a glimpse into the club’s preparations for the 2024/25 season.

Mullin missed the start of the campaign due to injury, with Jack Marriott instead partnering Ollie Palmer up front.

In Episode 1, the Liverpool-born forward opened up on the back problems he has had for the last three years.

When doing so, he shared that a surgeon told him he was at risk of losing feeling in his left leg had he carried on.

“The last three years I’ve always had this issue with me back. Herniated disc, slipped disc, whatever, and the cartilage was basically pressing on me nerve, constant shooting pains down me legs and stuff.

“I couldn’t really, well, I could sprint, but it always hurt. I found a way to get on with it and just play with the pain, coping with it fine, and into summer it was hurting more than usual.

“I got it scanned at the end of May. The surgeon obviously told me it had doubled in size, and I was at risk of losing all feeling in my left leg if it carried on.”

Paul Mullin set for Wrexham return

Mullin made his return from injury on August 24 off the bench against Reading for 16 minutes.

He played a regular role for the first half of the season but was left out of every League One matchday squad by Phil Parkinson after January 28.

However, Parkinson commented on Mullin recently, saying both he and Ollie Palmer will return for the 2025 pre-season.

He said: “Mulls and Ollie will always be legends at this club for what they’ve done. They’re under contract next year and they’ll be back in pre-season ready to go again.”
