Ryan Reynolds has spoken out on Friday following news regarding Steven Fletcher and Mark Howard.

May 15 was an especially busy day for Wrexham despite not having any games to prepare for, now that their season is over.

On the incoming front, it emerged that the Red Dragons had made an approach to sign Tom Cairney of Fulham.

Meanwhile, two players have since come out to confirm that they are leaving the Racecourse Ground when their deals expire on June 30.

Mark Howard will depart Wrexham as he is still looking to play more football at the back end of his career.

While Howard’s exit was seemingly his decision, Steven Fletcher will leave the club, in his words, ‘not by choice’.

Shortly after Fletcher’s departure was confirmed, Rob McElhenney sent a message to the Wrexham duo.

Now, fellow co-owner Ryan Reynolds has taken to Instagram on Friday to do the same.

On Fletcher, Reynolds wrote: “Mr @stevenfletcher9official: words aren’t agile enough to capture what you’ve brought to Wrexham, the sport, and the lives of myself and this whole town. You aren’t a PART of greatness.

“You ARE greatness. I don’t really know what a co-chairmen is supposed to do or say in these moments and I don’t much care. I’m gonna miss you. I’ll miss your leadership and wit and the way you remind everyone — including me — that this is also FUN. Like the first day we met, I’m here for you any time and any place. Always.”

On Howard, he continued: “And @markhoward.1 — how on earth do we put into words the clutch work you do as a keeper. You have the hardest job in football. And you can’t have that ability without being a clutch person in life. You have a beautiful family and you have a second family in Wrexham now and always. You’re the big beating heart of this team and the reason we have the best locker room in sports.”

Ryan added: “Fletch and Chomp, you’ve authored some of the greatest moments of my life. And so many others. All I can do is thank you.”

Wrexham ambition has become clear

Wrexham fans may be slightly surprised to see Fletcher not being offered a new contract.

He was their top-scoring striker in 2024/25, and while unable to complete 90 minutes anymore, could still have been a valuable option off the bench.

However, it seems clear now that the club are going to have an ambitious summer transfer window, which will improve their squad a great deal.

Wrexham are interested in several strikers, including two who have just been relegated from the Championship.
