Paul Mullin has scored his first competitive goal since leaving Wrexham this summer.

Wrexham were in Carabao Cup action on August 12, taking on fellow Championship side Hull City.

The Red Dragons took the lead shortly after the half-hour mark but found themselves 3-1 down and facing an early exit from the competition.

However, despite Phil Parkinson saying Ollie Palmer is heading for an exit, the veteran striker was named on the bench on Tuesday and came on to save the game.

Palmer scored twice against Hull, sending the tie to penalties, which Wrexham went on to win.

Elsewhere on Tuesday, Dragons loanee Paul Mullin was in action for Wigan Athletic.

Wigan were also in Carabao Cup action in midweek, taking on Wrexham’s old National League rivals, Notts County.

The Latics came out on top, securing a 1-0 victory following a 10th-minute penalty from the 30-year-old.

Wigan fans praised Mullin heavily for his performance against Notts County, and the player has now spoken out on his goal.

Taking to his Instagram story post-match, the centre-forward sent out two messages.

The first read: “Off. The. Mark.” followed by a target emoji.

And in the second, he wrote: “Nearly took the net off btw,” followed by a rocket emoji.

It was the first competitive goal Mullin had scored for any club since Wrexham’s 3-2 defeat to Stevenage on January 28, 2025.

Ollie Palmer comments on Paul Mullin

It was a great evening for two of Wrexham’s formerly crucial strikers.

Mullin and Palmer both scored competitive goals for the first time in many months, with the latter discussing his old partner on Tuesday.

Palmer commented on Mullin after Hull and said Wrexham fans wanted him to do his celebration.

He said: “Really special. I think they wanted me to do Mulls’ celebration at the end, but I was never going to do that.

“But it was emotional, it was like rolling back the years, with number 35! I really enjoyed it, but more importantly, we’re through to the next round and it’s a fantastic cup to go on and try to go as far as possible.”
