Wrexham have decided to part ways with Paul Mullin this summer, but he is still costing the club.

The Red Dragons have made wholesale changes to their squad since winning promotion to the Championship.

Wrexham released eight players in May, with their contracts expiring at the end of June.

Plenty of permanent and loan exits have since followed, including Paul Mullin signing for Wigan Athletic.

Mullin has played two games for Wigan in League One so far, both coming off the bench, but he will return to the Racecourse Ground next year.

How much Wrexham are still paying Paul Mullin

The 30-year-old remains under contract with the Welsh outfit until 2027, having joined the Latics on a season-long loan.

Details of Mullin’s loan move to Wigan have already been shared, including the fact that he can be recalled in January.

Nathan Salt also said that Wrexham are paying 50 percent of his wages while he’s away in the North West of England.

He said: “I’m led to believe: 50/50 on the wages, no option to buy there, recall option in January.”

It’s understood that Mullin earns £5,800-a-week in his current Wrexham contract, meaning they are still paying £2,400-a-week of that after his move to Wigan.

His transfer was made official on June 23, 2025, and the loan runs until June 30, 2026.

That means Wrexham will pay the striker £122,400 while he is on loan at Wigan.

Ollie Palmer could follow in Paul Mullin’s footsteps

Since Ryan Reynolds and Rob Mac took over, they have been able to sign big names who, in reality, should have been playing in higher divisions.

Mullin was a prime example of this, with his long-time striker partner Ollie Palmer another.

But as we previously reported, Wrexham are ready to move on Palmer this summer, though his wages could make a potential move tricky.

However, as our transfer correspondent Graeme Bailey told us, the club are willing to help out on that front, as they did with Mullin.
