On Tuesday night, the EFL Cup got underway with Wrexham and striker Paul Mullin both featuring.
Wrexham hosted Hull City whilst Paul Mullin‘s Wigan Athletic played against Notts County. The Dragons’ old foes Notts County travelled to the DW Stadium and eventually lost the game 1-0.
Meanwhile, Wrexham hosted Hull City in the EFL Cup first round. But Phil Parkinson will have been pleased to give a host of his first-team players another run out as he bids to get this new look side gelling.
And expect the Dragons boss to have picked up on the fact that Mullin scored his first goal for Wigan Athletic on Tuesday night as well.

Wrexham hero Paul Mullin scores his first goal for Wigan Athletic
In pre-season, Mullin showed positive glimpses for Wigan Athletic. He showed early signs that he’s steadily getting back to his best, but having played so little football all year, it’s understandable that he needs a bit of time to get back up to speed, and his goal for Wigan was from the spot.
A goal is a goal, though, and it was a very well-taken penalty from the 30-year-old Mullin, who could yet return to Wrexham at some point this season. Wrexham have the option to recall Mullin from Wigan Athletic, and the Latics do not have an option to buy the striker either.
With Mullin’s contract at the Racecourse running until the summer of 2027, there’s every chance that he plays for Wrexham again, and if he keeps on scoring for Wigan, the chances of him playing for the club again will only increase.

Wigan Athletic fans impressed by Paul Mullin
Opening his account for Wigan Athletic, plenty of Tics fans had a lot to say about Mullin on social media.
One Wigan Athletic supporter wrote: “He’s like a new player now. A lot better at battling and more confident. Mullin might be a slow burner, but it looks like he’s getting there. A penalty may have helped kickstart his Wigan career.”
They’re positive signs for the striker who will long hold a place in Wrexham fans’ heart. Another Wigan fan posted: “One of the best lower league strikers. Was it ever in doubt?” with regards to Mullin’s penalty.
A similar comment read: “Glad Mullin’s bagged now, should give him some confidence, absolutely brilliant penalty.” Meanwhile, this Wigan Athletic supporter wrote: “Looks sharp.”
Wigan return to League One action against Peterborough United this weekend, whilst Wrexham host West Brom.
