Paul Mullin enjoyed his weekend, netting his first League One goal after departing Wrexham this summer.

It was another disappointing Saturday for the Red Dragons, who blew a two-goal lead in their match.

Wrexham drew 2-2 with Sheffield Wednesday, leaving them winless in their opening three Championship fixtures.

However, it was slightly more positive for Paul Mullin, who is spending 2025/26 on loan at Wigan Athletic.

Wrexham loanee Paul Mullin speaks after Wigan Athletic goal

Mullin came under fire from Wigan fans earlier this week when he missed a big chance during a defeat to Luton Town.

Ryan Lowe then opted to start the centre-forward on the bench against Rotherham United.

But he came on in the 84th minute of the fixture. Mullin scored his first League One goal of the season and his first since January 28 in Wrexham 2-3 Stevenage.

Now, the Liverpool-born ace has conducted an interview with the Latics and discussed his effort.

He said: “Yeah, I was ecstatic obviously to score my first league goal for the club since signing, I’ve been eager to get off the mark and make a real impression with obviously the supporters but also with my teammates and things and I’ve been brought here to score some goals and to get off the mark was nice.”

However, he was left ‘disappointed’ by the fact he missed a chance late on to win the match.

Mullin continued: “Disappointing really to come away with a draw and obviously disappointed I didn’t manage to tuck the chance away when we ran from the halfway line.”

He was only on the pitch for a short period, but the on-loan attacker had a big impact on the result.

Mullin has said he wanted to win the game with the second chance he had, but it was still a solid performance.
