Paul Mullin has scored his first League One goal after leaving Wrexham for Wigan Athletic.

It has been a pretty mixed week for the Wrexham loanee at his new club.

Paul Mullin started on Tuesday as Wigan Athletic lost to Luton Town in a League One tie.

Wigan fans slammed Mullin for his performance on the night, in which he was given his first start in the third tier.

Wrexham fans defended their long-time striker amid the criticism, and he has now answered those critics with a goal.

Mullin was dropped to the bench versus Rotherham United by manager Ryan Lowe on August 23.

However, after the Latics found themselves 2-1 down in the 80th minute, the loanee was brought on with six minutes of normal time to play.

Mullin scored an equaliser, and fans have been reacting to his first league goal for the club, and his first in the division since a 3-2 defeat to Stevenage on January 28.

One fan wrote: “Yessss never doubted you.”

A second Wigan fan added: “NEVER DOUBTED HIM”.

“What a bizarre game. Quite entertaining but lacking quality. Thought we’d lost it, could’ve won it in the end. Good on Lowe for the changes. Hopefully gives Mullin some confidence,” a third stated.

A fourth tweeted: “Take that result, be good to win but first point on the road. Buzzing for Mullin, hopefully it’ll silence a few of our fanbase.”

A fourth added: “Good player that Mullin ain’t he #wafc come on!”

“Mullin can start whenever he wants,” claimed a fifth, with a sixth adding: “Always rated Mullin.”

Paul Mullin Wigan Athletic loan details

Wrexham fans will no doubt love to see their club legend scoring on the back of a challenging few days.

He is still under contract with the Welsh powerhouse until 2027 and can return as early as January.

Wrexham have the option to recall Mullin from Wigan in the 2026 winter transfer, though that does seem unlikely at this stage.

The Dragons are paying 50 percent of the striker’s wages while he is out on loan as well.
