Paul Mullin wins Wrexham award as Ollie Rathbone takes Player of the Season crown after clinching promotion

Wrexham’s League One season has come to an end with Phil Parkinson now looking ahead to Championship life.

Wrexham returned to League One this time a year ago, but only ended up spending a year back in the third tier.

Phil Parkinson has secured another promotion, with Wrexham beating Charlton Athletic last week to book a spot in the Championship.

Three promotions in a row leave Wrexham just one more promotion away from the Premier League.

Parkinson saw Wrexham beat Lincoln City 2-0 on Saturday, bringing the curtain down on another fine campaign.

It’s now time to recognise the achievements of the Wrexham squad, with award season now upon us.

Paul Mullin wins Wrexham award

We noted in April that Paul Mullin would have a great chance to win an award despite his recent Wrexham exile.

Mullin has been Wrexham’s goalscoring hero over the years, but this has been a testing season.

Mullin’s game time has completely vanished, failing to make a single League One appearance since the end of the January transfer window.

An award is still coming Mullin’s way as he clinched Wrexham’s Goal of the Season award.

Mullin’s stunning volley against Blackpool on Boxing Day was a worthy winner, and its sheer quality is why we felt so confident of him being in contention for the award.

Mullin took the ball on his knee, before unleashing a dipping left-footed volley into the net.

Jack Marriott’s brilliant volley against Wycombe Wanderers on the opening day of the season was up there, as was Modou Faal’s acrobatic effort against Wolverhampton Wanderers Under-21’s in the EFL Trophy.

Sam Smith’s flying effort against Charlton Athletic rounded out the four options, meaning Mullin faced some strong competition.

Ryan Reynolds loved Smith’s goal against Charlton, but Mullin at least has one more award to add to his tally.

Mullin award streak comes to an end

Mullin won the Goal of the Season award, but his streak of winning the Player of the Season award is over.

Mullin won the award three years in a row as his goals fired Wrexham up through the leagues.

Unfortunately, Mullin’s lack of football in 2025 means that his streak has come to an end.

Ollie Rathbone has been named Wrexham’s Player of the Season, with Max Cleworth taking the Young Player of the Season and Players’ Player of the Season awards.

Wrexham fans serenaded Mullin at full-time against Charlton Athletic but may be a little disappointed that he didn’t receive a send-off against Lincoln City.

If this is goodbye, then at least Wrexham fans were able to give Mullin a parting gift with the Goal of the Season award.
