Phil Parkinson secured Wrexham’s second victory in their Championship campaign as they beat Norwich City 3-2 last weekend.

A brace from Josh Windass and another goal from Ryan Longman earned the Red Dragons the victory, as the Wrexham players impressed in the win.

They managed to overcome the odds and deny the Canaries a first home victory of the campaign, with Wrexham earning their first win over Norwich in 55 years.

Parkinson sent a defiant message following their victory after he had been under pressure ahead of the game, with questions existing around his job.

Now, a former Welsh international believes that the Wrexham manager has addressed the criticism and demonstrated this in one decision during their victory at Carrow Road.

Iwan Roberts believes Phil Parkinson’s halftime alteration proved doubters wrong

The former Wales international Iwan Roberts took to the Pink Un with a column to write about the worries concerning Norwich City; however, he addressed the performance of Wrexham and how he was impressed by the Red Dragons.

Roberts believes the decision by Parkinson to remove Callum Doyle for Lewis Brunt at the interval was important to them securing the victory.

He said: “I think the 3-2 scoreline was correct at Carrow Road on Saturday – although Wrexham might have thought they left a few goals out there, in all honesty.

“I hadn’t seen Wrexham live this season, and I thought they played well. They responded well to the criticism that their manager, Phil Parkinson, had had in the week, with question marks over his future at the club – after what he’s done, I thought it was really harsh.

“Wrexham made a change at half-time and decided to take off Callum Doyle, who I thought struggled on his return to Carrow Road, and brought on Lewis Brunt, who’s quicker than Doyle.

“Three goals in the opening 13 minutes of the second half turned the game on its head.”

Iwan Roberts still believes Wrexham are ‘vulnerable’ in defence

Roberts was impressed by the Wrexham attack, believing that they should have scored more against Norwich but for the hosts’ goalkeeper being in fine form to keep the scoreline respectable.

He believes the fact that the Red Dragons were under pressure for the final minutes of the game after conceding to Jovon Makama in stoppage time demonstrates that there are still some concerns in their defence and mentality.

While it is positive that they secured the three points and that they were able to see out the victory, there is room for improvement in defence.

He said: “I still think they looked vulnerable at the back, but I don’t think Norwich capitalised enough on that in the first half.

“I thought Papa Amadou Diallo down the left, Jack Stacey down the right, to be fair, were the most threatening going forward for Norwich, but they didn’t make the most of the spaces that Wrexham’s wing-backs were leaving for them, leaving themselves a little bit exposed.

“That’s where the goal came from. I thought they were slightly lucky to go in at half-time winning 1-0, if I’m being honest.”
