Phil Parkinson confirms another Wrexham injury problem ahead of Stockport County

Wrexham are preparing to face Stockport County this weekend but Phil Parkinson is having to deal with an ever-growing injury list ahead of the game.

Wrexham turn the focus back to League One action on Saturday afternoon, travelling to Edgeley Park to take on Stockport County.

This has been a real rivalry in recent years with both Stockport and Wrexham enjoying rises from the National League to League One.

The two sides lock horns again this weekend with Wrexham looking for another League One win after beating Mansfield Town last weekend.

Wrexham were in EFL Trophy action in midweek but the 1-1 draw against Port Vale appears to have only brought more injury woes.

Phil Parkinson confirms Steven Fletcher problem

Wrexham are looking like the walking wounded right now.

Will Boyle and Luke Bolton picked up injuries at Port Vale whilst Arthur Okonkwo is now facing six weeks out.

These three new injury problems are hardly ideal when Wrexham are already dealing with a number of absences.

George Evans is already out whilst Jack Marriott’s injury will keep him out until 2025.

Steven Fletcher picked up a knee injury in October too, forcing Wrexham to go and sign free agent Jon Dadi Bodvarsson.

Fletcher’s return date was shrouded in mystery anyway, but it sounds like Wrexham fans will have to wait even longer to see him return.

Boss Phil Parkinson has told Wrexham’s official website that Fletcher has now suffered a setback in his recovery.

Parkinson noted that Fletcher was in training last week but has now been sent to a specialist to get to the bottom of his injury problems.

“Steven Fletcher trained last week but has had a slight setback and he’s seeing a specialist today so we’ll know more after that,” said Parkinson.

Modou Faal and Jon Dadi Bodvarsson

Fletcher is coming to the end of his career at 37 but can still make an impact when fit.

Marriott has hailed Fletcher as ‘top class’ and he will certainly be missed if his injury keeps him out for any significant period of time.

Wrexham will likely go with Ollie Palmer and Paul Mullin as the first-choice strike pairing with Modou Faal and Jon Dadi Bodvarsson stepping up to replace the injured Marriott and Fletcher.

Faal is a project for the future whilst Bodvarsson has only recently joined Wrexham as a free agent, so this isn’t exactly ideal.

However, Parkinson has praised Faal and Bodvarsson, believing that they formed a ‘good combination’ against Port Vale on Tuesday night.

Parkinson may well need to call on both strikers with the festive period on the horizon and Fletcher looking likely to miss a host of Wrexham games.
