Wrexham have suffered a big blow on the injury front according to manager Phil Parkinson.

The Red Dragons welcomed Huddersfield Town to the Racecourse Ground on October 22nd for a League One meeting.

Wrexham were looking to extend their superb home record this year but it came to an end after an underwhelming attacking display against the Terriers.

The Welsh outfit were far from their best going forward with Elliot Lee’s display a concern for Phil Parkinson after the midfielder failed to muster up up a single key pass or even attempt a dribble across the 90 minutes.

Ryan Barnett was the standout performer for Wrexham vs Huddersfield but they have now lost their record of winning every home match in 2024/25.

To make matters worse, Birmingham City won on Tuesday, seeing the Blues extend their lead atop of League One to four points while still having a game in hand.

Wrexham dealt big injury blow before Huddersfield Town

The result and display on Tuesday were not the only concerns for the Wrexham manager, however, as they have now been dealt a fresh injury blow.

After he missed the win over Rotherham United on Saturday, Parkinson confirmed Jack Marriott was injured and will be facing a four-month spell on the sidelines.

Now, speaking post-Huddersfield, the Wrexham boss has admitted that they have now lost another striker to injury.

37-year-old Steven Fletcher was left out of the matchday squad against the Yorkshire outfit with Parkinson sharing a worrying update post-match.

He said: “Fletch is a real problem, a real blow for us. It flared up over the weekend.”

Wrexham could dip into transfer market to replace Steven Fletcher

After losing Marriott for four months, Parkinson claimed Wrexham will not sign a free agent to replace the 30-year-old.

However, as mentioned in the tweet above, the 56-year-old’s stance looks to have changed following the latest blow to Flecther.

Wrexham always start two strikers and at present, only have Paul Mullin, Ollie Palmer and summer signing Modou Faal to compete for two places.

Given how hectic the League One schedule is, especially as we head toward the Christmas period, it is clear Wrexham will have to sign a replacement using the free agent market.

Who that will be remains to be seen but some cover must be brought in sooner rather than later, with Rob McElhenney and Ryan Reynolds no doubt willing to pay up to ensure the best possible option is signed.

Right now, however, there are not too many top-quality number nines available to fill the major gap in Wrexham’s frontline.
