Phil Parkinson has already backtracked on Wrexham promise, it might disrupt the squad’s ‘balance’

Wrexham boss Phil Parkinson made one promise about the Red Dragons’ transfer business that appears to have not stood up.

Following the pre-season tour Down Under, Wrexham have placed serious emphasis on ensuring their squad is fit for the challenge of the Championship.

Wrexham have significantly added to the ranks, with Liberato Cacace being signed for a club record fee, whilst Josh Windass and Lewis O’Brien have also joined.

The Red Dragons won’t stop there with their transfer dealings as Ryan Reynolds and Rob Mac look to significantly back Phil Parkinson this summer.

Recent reports are suggesting that Wrexham are keen to sign Christian Eriksen following his Man United departure, and whilst a potential move could be terrific for the Red Dragons, it would see Parkinson break one of his promises from this summer.

Christian Eriksen signing could see Wrexham boss Phil Parkinson break ‘no superstars’ rule

Wrexham’s approach for Christian Eriksen has been confirmed by his agent, although the Danishman might still favour a top-flight move if he were handed the opportunity.

Whilst the Danishman would transform Wrexham under Phil Parkinson, it could be suggested that the Red Dragons boss’s key philosophy regarding arrivals would be broken.

Speaking back in April, Parkinson said: “No superstars, no egos in the dressing room and we’ve got to try and get that balance right again where you always need extra quality when you go up a level, but make sure that they are the right people coming into the building.”

It is safe to assume that Eriksen would qualify as a ‘superstar’, having played a combined 108 Champions League and Europa League games, on top of 310 in the Premier League.

Christian Eriksen experience will excite Wrexham fans

Some Red Dragons supporters may point towards Christian Eriksen being 33 years old as a potential drawback in signing the Dane, and whilst he is in the swansong of his career, he would still revolutionise this Wrexham side.

Having that level of experience in the Wrexham squad would prove to be massive for Phil Parkinson’s side, especially after he emphasised the importance of bringing in such characteristics.

Eriksen’s playmaking abilities, in spite of his age, are still world-class and are enough reason to break the bank for his signing. Wrexham may not be frontrunners to sign Eriksen, but it is a brilliant sign of ambition by Ryan Reynolds and Rob Mac.
