Wrexham have made a major statement by completing the signing of Nottingham Forest midfielder Lewis O’Brien on a three-year contract.
Wrexham have now made four signings in less than a week as Phil Parkinson ramps up his plans for the Championship season.
Parkinson added two signings before Wrexham’s pre-season trip to Australia and New Zealand, but has now brought in four new faces.
New Zealand star Liberato Cacace joined Wrexham on Friday, before Parkinson raided Bolton Wanderers for George Thomason.
Josh Windass joined Wrexham on a free transfer, adding more attacking quality to Parkinson’s forward options.
Three signings have now become four, with Lewis O’Brien completing a move to Wrexham from Nottingham Forest.

Swansea City fans on Lewis O’Brien to Wrexham
O’Brien has been a key Wrexham target throughout the summer, and Parkinson has finally secured his signature.
O’Brien is looking forward to a new chapter at Wrexham and will look to settle down with a permanent move to the STōK Cae Ras.
Nottingham Forest signed O’Brien in 2022, but have sent him out on loan four times in the last three years.
O’Brien has spent time with D.C. United, Middlesbrough, LAFC and Swansea City, with none of those moves bringing him back into the fold at Forest.
Now leaving permanently, O’Brien will hope for a long and fruitful career at Wrexham – much to the annoyance of Swansea fans.
O’Brien quickly became a fan favourite during his time at the Liberty Stadium, and Swansea supporters have taken to social media to comment on his move to Wrexham.
Some believe that Wrexham have signed a real gem in O’Brien, suggesting that he is a ‘big, big signing’ at his level.
Others called O’Brien ‘absolute quality’, ‘a real leader’ and a ‘ridiculously good signing’ as Wrexham prepare for the Championship season.
O’Brien’s move to Wrexham has sparked jealousy and pain for some Swansea fans, even suggesting that he is the best signing in the Championship so far this summer.
- What a player, what a signing.
- All the best Wrexham, you got a gem there. What a player
- That’s a big, big signing. Would have loved him back at Swansea. You’ve got a player
- Should never fall in love with a loan player, but I did. What signing for you lot, absolute quality player
- Cracking signing that. He was brilliant at us on loan. Real leader. Top signing
- Fair play, that’s a ridiculously good signing. Would’ve liked him back at Swansea if we hadn’t signed Galbraith and Widell
- Brilliant signing, wished we had him again, but the value was too much for what he can bring
- Super signing, that. Very jealous. Go well, Lewis.
- Incredible signing
- Best signing in the league this season, fair enough
- Good luck to Lewis, was brilliant for us after Grimes left… But we move on and look for a replacement.
- Haven’t been that impressed with the business Wrexham have done this summer….until today!
- This hurts, not going to lie. Fair play to Wrexham, though.

When will Lewis O’Brien face Swansea City?
Wrexham and Swansea haven’t locked horns in league action for more than 20 years.
The last meeting finished in a 0-0 draw back in March 2003, and the two sides will finally renew their rivalry this season.
Wrexham travel to Swansea on 20 December this season, with O’Brien set to return to face his former club in the final game before Christmas.
Swansea make the trip to north Wales on 14 March 2026, with bragging rights up for grabs in the battle for Welsh supremacy.
Cardiff City’s relegation means it will be a straight fight between Wrexham and Swansea to become the highest-placed Welsh side in the Championship.
O’Brien will now be part of Wrexham’s hopes, and will look to haunt his former club in the process.
