Wrexham striker Kieffer Moore suffered an injury following his debut for the club and Phil Parkinson has given an update.

The Red Dragons lost their first second-tier fixture since 1982 against Southampton last week.

Despite the loss, it was a fairly positive performance against a team who were able to call on plenty of Premier League-level talent.

Wrexham now face West Brom in a 12:30pm BST Championship fixture on Saturday, and Phil Parkinson has held his pre-match press conference.

Phil Parkinson gives Kieffer Moore injury update before Wrexham vs West Brom

Parkinson discussed a number of topics in his presser, including summer signing Kieffer Moore.

Moore suffered an ankle injury during the second half of the Saints tie and was absent against Hull City in midweek.

Now, the Wrexham manager has shared a positive update on the forward’s condition, saying it’s not as bad as they feared it could be.

He stated: “Kieffer’s not as bad as we feared it could be, so that’s really good news for us.

“We just keep monitoring him and Kev’s working on getting the swelling out the joint but obviously day by day he’s getting better and when you have an ankle ligament injury like that, similar to Ollie Rathbone actually, you always fear that it could be somewhat worse but it’s not a serious injury and he is making really good progress.”

How Wrexham can line up without Kieffer Moore

While he didn’t outright rule Moore out of Saturday’s game, it does look as though the former Sheffield United man will not be featuring.

It leaves Parkinson with a slight problem as he doesn’t have any other ‘big man’ strikers to call on except Ollie Palmer.

Palmer scored twice in midweek, but after Parkinson said the Wrexham number 35 can leave this summer, he may not be given the chance to feature from the off.

Instead, we could see either Ryan Hardie or Sam Smith playing ahead of Josh Windass in the front two.

Given that Smith has had fewer minutes in pre-season, the more likely option is probably Hardie.
