Wrexham have not had a dream start to life back in the English second tier, after a 43-year absence from the division, as they have earned only four points from their opening five Championship games.
Their only victory in the Championship this campaign came away at Millwall, prior to the international break, with a 2-0 scoreline.
This was encouraging for both Wrexham and their fans; however, they were brought back down to reality with a 3-1 home defeat last weekend against QPR.
Wrexham can achieve history this weekend by winning consecutive away games in the second tier for only the third time ever; however, Phil Parkinson is desperate to secure a home victory for Red Dragons fans when they face Derby County next weekend.
Phil Parkinson believes a ‘desperation’ to win home games has been Wrexham’s problem
Wrexham got used to winning at home over the past three seasons as they achieved their historic consecutive promotions from the National League to the Championship.
While the Red Dragons have performed admirably in the Championship so far without getting the results they feel they may have deserved, Phil Parkinson has now seemingly addressed the problem, with it being a ‘desperation’ to win at home.
Speaking to The Leader, he said: “In the home games in particular, we’ve almost got a desperation to go and win games.
“We’re chasing the win at times and coming off our shape when we’re closing down and making decisions where, as everyone’s seen, we got picked off.
“That doesn’t come from a bad place from us; it comes from a team and a club who’s used to winning at home.
“But we’ve got to educate the group that we’ve won games from a really strong structure, and we just haven’t quite got that in place at home yet.”
Wrexham are looking to address their defensive issues
Wrexham’s problems seem to be stemming from defensive issues, with the Red Dragons conceding 10 goals in their opening five Championship fixtures.
However, it must be remembered Wrexham have been creating chances in attack, as they have scored eight goals so far this campaign, and now Parkinson wants to find a middle ground to bring more victories for the Red Dragons.

He said: “We’re working to re-address that balance of trying to maintain the threat we have in the team, which is really important, whilst making sure that we’re harder to play against.
“We’re working hard to rectify that on the training ground.
“We’ve shown we can do it, and now we’ve got to implement it on a more consistent basis.”
