Wrexham have endured a nightmare start to their Championship campaign in terms of injuries.

Jay Rodriguez picked up an injury during pre-season that is expected to keep him out until at least January, whilst Josh Windass picked up a hamstring injury against West Brom.

Liberato Cacace has struggled to shake off a knock in the opening weeks, whilst fellow new signing Nathan Broadhead also missed the win over Millwall.

Phil Parkinson suffered a further injury blow during that victory as Danny Ward required elbow surgery and the Wrexham boss has now provided a timeline for the goalkeeper’s return to action.

Phil Parkinson expects Danny Ward to miss four months for Wrexham

Speaking to the Leader, Parkinson has revealed that he expects Ward to be out for ‘about four months’ following his elbow surgery.

Ollie Rathbone has given Parkinson an injury boost with the midfielder closing in on a return from an ankle injury, however, it is not such good news for the Wales international goalkeeper.

Parkinson stated: “The operation went fine. Obviously we feel for Danny, but it is what it is with him. It’s a blow for him because he’d got in the team,

“But Arthur had also done well in the games he played against Preston and Hull, particularly the Preston game when he made a couple of really good saves.

“Danny will be back here with us later in the week and it will be good to catch up with him. I think we are looking about four months.”

Wrexham have sufficient squad depth to cope with Danny Ward injury

Whilst there is no doubt losing Ward’s experience is a huge blow for the Red Dragons, Parkinson does have considerable depth in the goalkeeping position.

Wrexham fans demanded Arthur Okonkwo’s return to the side following the recent defeat to West Brom in the Championship, where Ward was at fault for West Brom’s late strike.

Callum Burton signed a new contract at the club during the summer transfer window and is an able deputy to Okonkwo during this period.

Wrexham also signed Reuben Egan on a six-month contract after the transfer deadline and the 20-year-old does not have to be registered in the 25-man squad for the beginning of the campaign.
